{"id":118041,"date":"2025-04-28T22:18:25","date_gmt":"2025-04-28T21:18:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=118041"},"modified":"2025-04-28T22:18:25","modified_gmt":"2025-04-28T21:18:25","slug":"act-fast-or-miss-out-ahcn-warns-housing-corporations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/act-fast-or-miss-out-ahcn-warns-housing-corporations\/","title":{"rendered":"Act Fast or Miss Out, AHCN Warns Housing Corporations"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>Daniel Adaji<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The Association of Housing Corporations of Nigeria (AHCN) has warned state housing corporations to act swiftly or lose out on major federal housing opportunities.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The Federal Government\u2019s Renewed Hope Housing Programme, which aims to deliver 50,000 housing units in its first phase, presents a critical opportunity for these agencies to contribute to solving the country\u2019s housing deficit.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>At the opening of AHCN\u2019s strategic session on Monday in Abuja, the President, Eno Obongha, urged members to seize the \u201clow-hanging fruits\u201d offered by the programme, which is already underway across 14 locations.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>&#8220;The Renewed Hope Programme could pass away without housing corporations benefiting if we fail to act,&#8221; Obongha said, highlighting the programme\u2019s extensive reach, which includes a 3,112-unit project in Karsana, Abuja, and other projects in states such as Kano, Lagos, Ebonyi, and Delta.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Obongha stressed that many state housing corporations risked becoming obsolete, pointing out that some had not built a single house in 10 years.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>&#8220;Some governors now treat housing corporations as mere departments under ministries,&#8221; he said, calling for an urgent reversal of such mergers to align with the National Housing Policy.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>AHCN&#8217;s Executive Secretary Toye Eniola was blunt about the sector\u2019s failings.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>&#8220;Most housing corporations are stuck in the past \u2014 using manual typewriters, without websites, and unable to adapt to digital realities,&#8221; he said.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>He blamed weak leadership, dependence on government salaries, and resistance to change for the sector\u2019s decline.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Both leaders challenged corporations to transform, embrace technology, and operate like real businesses.
