{"id":118209,"date":"2025-05-02T15:45:42","date_gmt":"2025-05-02T14:45:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=118209"},"modified":"2025-05-02T15:45:42","modified_gmt":"2025-05-02T14:45:42","slug":"afdb-approves-650m-annual-investment-in-nigeria","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/afdb-approves-650m-annual-investment-in-nigeria\/","title":{"rendered":"AfDB Approves $650m Annual Investment in Nigeria"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>Daniel Adaji<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The African Development Bank (AfDB) has approved a new five-year strategy that will see it invest about $650m annually in Nigeria to boost economic growth, infrastructure, and job creation.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The plan was announced Thursday on the AfDB\u2019s website following approval by the Bank\u2019s Board of Directors.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Abdul Kamara, Director General of the AfDB Nigeria Office said, \u201cThis strategy takes a transformative partnership between the Bank and Nigeria to a new level. By investing in sustainable infrastructure and inclusive agricultural growth, we are building pathways to prosperity for millions of Nigerians.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The Country Strategy Paper (2025\u20132030) outlines AfDB\u2019s commitment to Nigeria\u2019s development priorities through an initial $2.95bn investment over four years. This funding is expected to be complemented by $3.21bn in co-financing from development partners.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The strategy targets two main areas: sustainable, climate-smart infrastructure to support industrial development, and inclusive green growth that benefits women and youth.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The Bank aims to help close Nigeria\u2019s infrastructure gap\u2014estimated at $2.3tn between 2020 and 2043\u2014by financing climate-resilient roads, power, and water systems.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>In line with national plans such as the Agenda 2050, the National Development Plan (2021\u20132025), and the Renewed Hope Agenda, the AfDB\u2019s strategy also supports Nigeria\u2019s ambitions under the African Continental Free Trade Area. It will enhance energy access, improve transport networks, and increase market opportunities for farmers and agro-entrepreneurs.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The plan is expected to help Nigeria double the size of its economy to $1tn\u00a0 and create more than 1.5m\u00a0 jobs.
