{"id":118242,"date":"2025-05-03T06:42:37","date_gmt":"2025-05-03T05:42:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=118242"},"modified":"2025-05-03T06:42:37","modified_gmt":"2025-05-03T05:42:37","slug":"rivers-women-storm-out-of-empowerment-venue-snubs-sole-administrators-wife-address","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/rivers-women-storm-out-of-empowerment-venue-snubs-sole-administrators-wife-address\/","title":{"rendered":"Rivers Women Storm Out of Empowerment Venue, Snubs Sole Administrator\u2019s Wife Address"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">By Myke Agunwa<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">A group of women in Rivers State walked out of a women empowerment event at the EUI Centre in Port Harcourt on Friday.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">This is just as they insisted that they would be addressed by the wife of suspended governor Mrs. Valeria Fubara or even wife of the President, Oluremi Tinubu instead of the wife of the Sole Administrator, Mrs. Theresa Ete-Ibas.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">Recall that President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in the oil-rich state and suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, the Deputy Governor, Ngozi Odu, and all elected members of the State House of Assembly on March 18 for an initial period of six months.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">The protest was in reaction to the continued suspension of Governor Fubara by President Bola Tinubu.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">The women, who were invited to the event made their position unequivocally clear that they would not be addressed by anyone other than the wife of the suspended governor, Mrs. Valeria Fubara.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">Chanting slogans such as \u201cWe want SIM!\u201d and \u201cStrangers can\u2019t speak for us!\u201d, the women accused Mrs. Ete-Ibas of being an outsider with no electoral mandate.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWho is that impostor? Ibas\u2019s wife is addressing Rivers\u2019 women? Who is she? Come on, pack your load, Madam, we don\u2019t want you,\u201d one of the protesting women declared.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">Another protester voiced her frustration, saying, \u201cWe need Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu to come and address us. She is the one we have been waiting for. We don\u2019t need a stranger. We want Sim right now. Sim should come today, not tomorrow.\u201d<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">The crowd eventually dispersed from the venue, effectively cutting the program short.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">The incident is the latest in a string of grassroots-led protests demanding the reinstatement of Governor Fubara, who enjoys significant public support in the state, especially among women and youth groups.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">Since his suspension, different women group have been protesting regularly across different Local Government Areas, calling on the federal government to respect the will of the Rivers people and bring back the suspended governor.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">There has been no official response from the Rivers State interim administration or the Office of the First Lady regarding Thursday\u2019s walkout.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">However, the episode underscores the deepening political tensions in the oil-rich state and growing resistance to the interim arrangement installed by the federal government.<\/div>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Myke Agunwa A group of women in Rivers State walked out of a women empowerment event at the EUI Centre in Port Harcourt on Friday.
