{"id":119488,"date":"2025-06-06T19:09:44","date_gmt":"2025-06-06T18:09:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=119488"},"modified":"2025-06-06T19:09:44","modified_gmt":"2025-06-06T18:09:44","slug":"akwa-ibom-commissioner-resigns-as-gov-eno-defects-to-apc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/exclusive\/akwa-ibom-commissioner-resigns-as-gov-eno-defects-to-apc\/","title":{"rendered":"Akwa Ibom commissioner resigns as Gov Eno defects to APC"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">By Myke Agunwa<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Information, Strategy and Special Duties, Ini Ememobong, has formally tendered his resignation following the final exit of Governor Umo Eno from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">The governor on Friday announced his defection from the PDP to the APC.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">Speaking in Uyo, the state capital, Eno said the decision followed \u201cthree months of wide consultation\u201d with critical stakeholders across the state.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cFor some time now, the political space, particularly in this state and the nation in general, has been awash with the news of my likely movement from the PDP, the platform that has provided the levers and ladder of my political ascendancy to the position of governor of this state,\u201d Eno said.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">He had earlier threatened his cabinet members to resign if they do not want to follow him to his new party.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">In response to the directive, the commissioner, in a post on his Facebook explained that his resignation was in accordance with the Governor\u2019s directive that any political appointee unwilling to join the APC should step aside.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cToday, I have tendered my resignation to the Governor in compliance with his directive that his appointees who are unwilling to join him on the political journey to the APC should resign,\u201d he stated.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ememobong, a member of the PDP emphasised that his decision was guided by his principles and long-standing opposition to the APC.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWhile I cannot question or fault the Governor\u2019s personal decision, I am unable to join in that sojourn. My decision is borne out of my belief in politics with principles and my long-standing opposition to that political platform, which is daily validated by numerous Nigerians across many sectors,\u201d he said.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">He made it clear that his resignation does not reflect any personal disagreement with Eno.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThis decision does not affect my personal relationship with the Governor, who calls me his brother and reposed great confidence in me by saddling me with two very important ministries (Information and Special Duties &amp; Ibom Deep Sea Port),\u201d he wrote.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI have and will continue to have tremendous respect for HE Governor Umo Eno, even out of EXCO.\u201d<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">In a statement, Ememobong expressed gratitude to both the governor and his predecessor, Mr Udom Emmanuel.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cLet me convey the very sincere appreciation of my family to His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, for appointing me into his cabinet.
