{"id":119648,"date":"2025-06-12T17:44:27","date_gmt":"2025-06-12T16:44:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=119648"},"modified":"2025-06-12T17:44:27","modified_gmt":"2025-06-12T16:44:27","slug":"democracy-day-frc-calls-for-fiscal-transparency","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/democracy-day-frc-calls-for-fiscal-transparency\/","title":{"rendered":"Democracy Day: FRC Calls for Fiscal Transparency"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>By Daniel Adaji<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The Fiscal Responsibility Commission (FRC) has said that transparent financial management is essential to safeguarding the nation\u2019s democracy.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>In his &#8216;Democracy Day&#8217; message on Thursday, Executive Chairman of the Commission, Victor Muruako, said the stability of Nigeria\u2019s democratic system relies heavily on how well public funds are managed.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u201cFiscal responsibility is the lifeblood of sustainable democracy. &#8220;When citizens can track every naira of their tax money and see it translated into tangible development, that is democracy in its truest form,\u201d he said.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>He noted that the FRC\u2019s core mandate to enforce transparency and accountability in public finance directly supports the growth of Nigeria\u2019s democratic institutions.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>He said proper accounting and efficient resource allocation allow citizens to hold their leaders accountable, a key pillar of democratic governance.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Muruako said that fiscal reforms are beginning to yield positive results, referencing the World Bank\u2019s recent projection of 3.6 per cent economic growth for Nigeria in 2025.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>While commending ongoing government initiatives such as subsidy reforms, revenue optimisation, and spending efficiency, he emphasised the need for sustained commitment across all levels of government.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The Chairman called on ministries, departments and agencies of the government, civil society, and citizens to see fiscal responsibility as a shared value.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u201cOur collective prosperity depends on our shared vigilance over public resources. Fiscal responsibility is a civic duty, not just a government obligation.
