{"id":120018,"date":"2025-06-24T06:18:33","date_gmt":"2025-06-24T05:18:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=120018"},"modified":"2025-06-24T06:18:33","modified_gmt":"2025-06-24T05:18:33","slug":"senate-jerks-customs-revenue-target-to-n10-trillion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/senate-jerks-customs-revenue-target-to-n10-trillion\/","title":{"rendered":"Senate Jerks Customs Revenue Target to N10 trillion\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>By Lizzy Chirkpi<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The Senate has increased the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) 2025 revenue target from the proposed N6.584 trillion to N10 trillion, following the agency&#8217;s strong revenue performance in 2024.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The Senate made the declaration on Monday, June 23,\u00a0 2025 during the NCS\u2019s 2025 budget defence before the Senate Committee on Customs, chaired by Senator Isah Jibrin (APC, Kogi East).<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>This is just as he commended the agency for surpassing its 2024 revenue target of N5.079 trillion by over a trillion naira.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The Chairman of Committee and its members expressed optimism in the service ability to achieve more as they unanimously approved the 2025 revenue target and expenditure proposal presented by the NCS. The agency\u2019s 2025 expenditure was put at N1.132 trillion. These figures will be presented at the Senate plenary within the week as lawmakers resume from their Sallah recess on Tuesday, June 24.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Meanwhile the Committee Chair, tasked NCS to step up a strong team and build capacity of officers to curb smuggling and the trafficking of illicit drugs into the country.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u201cThere is a high prevalence of illicit drugs in circulation, which is fuelling criminal activities like banditry. Many of these perpetrators are under the influence of drugs. In addition to revenue generation, Customs must prioritise its role in national security.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u201cThe President has urged Nigerians to consume what we produce. The goal is to reduce importation to essentials.
