{"id":120135,"date":"2025-06-26T21:31:21","date_gmt":"2025-06-26T20:31:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=120135"},"modified":"2025-06-26T21:31:21","modified_gmt":"2025-06-26T20:31:21","slug":"senate-confirms-nwuche-akpabio-15-others-for-ssdc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/senate-confirms-nwuche-akpabio-15-others-for-ssdc\/","title":{"rendered":"Senate Confirms Nwuche, Akpabio, 15 Others for SSDC"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">By Lizzy Chirkpi<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Senate on Thursday confirmed former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chibudom Nwuche as the Chairman of the newly established South-South Development Commission (SSDC).<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">Usoro Offiong Akpabio from Akwa Ibom State was also confirmed as the commission&#8217;s Managing Director.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">However, Tijani Yahaya Kaura, the nominee representing the North-West, was not cleared due to his failure to submit necessary documents and refusal to appear before the committee for screening.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">The committee noted that &#8220;the window remains open should he eventually present himself for the process.&#8221;<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">The confirmations followed the presentation of the report by the Senate Committee on the South-South Development Commission, chaired by Senator Benson Konbowei (PDP, Bayelsa Central).<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">Earlier, the Chairman of the Senate Committee while submitting the report stated that &#8220;the Senate do receive and consider the report of the Committee on South-South Development Commission on the confirmation of the nomination for appointment as Chairman, Managing Director, and Members of the Board of the South-South Development Commission (SSDC).&#8221;<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had submitted the list of nominees to the Senate for screening and confirmation last month. Senate President Godswill Akpabio had read the president&#8217;s request during plenary and referred it to the appropriate committee, which was tasked to report back within one week.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Senate also confirmed the following nominees as members of the SSDC board:<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">Rt. Hon. Larry Odey \u2013 Member, Cross River, Charles Zuofa \u2013 Member, Bayelsa, Dr. Nkereuwem Ebong \u2013 Member, Akwa Ibom, Engr. Chika Chinedu \u2013 Member, Rivers:<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">Barr. Femi Oise \u2013 Member, Edo: Dr. Charles Sylvester Enukhowhate \u2013 Member, Delta: Tabitha Iliya Sallah \u2013 Member, North-East: Alh. Yusuf Rasaq Amao \u2013 Member, North-Central: Joseph Mmamal \u2013 Member, South-East: Hon. Bukonola Braimoh \u2013 Member,<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">For South-West, the confirmed executive directors include:<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">Hon. Marcus Nie Eji \u2013 Executive Director, Projects (Rivers), Engr. Aganaba Preye Steven \u2013 Executive Director, Social and Human Capital Development (Bayelsa), Dr. Timi Alari Ayibatonye \u2013 Executive Director, Corporate Services (Delta), Hon.
