{"id":120463,"date":"2025-07-08T15:21:21","date_gmt":"2025-07-08T14:21:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=120463"},"modified":"2025-07-08T15:21:21","modified_gmt":"2025-07-08T14:21:21","slug":"2027-adc-chieftains-legal-action-against-mark-aregbesola-threatens-coalition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/2027-adc-chieftains-legal-action-against-mark-aregbesola-threatens-coalition\/","title":{"rendered":"2027: ADC chieftains&#8221;\u00a0 legal action against Mark, Aregbesola threatens Coalition\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">By Myke Agunwa<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">Three members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have approached the Federal High Court in Abuja asking the court to nullify the takeover of the party by an interim leadership led by former Senate President David Mark and former Osun State governor, Rauf Aregbesola.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">Recall that on July 2nd 2025, a coalition of key opposition figures, including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, and Nasir El\u2011Rufai chose the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as their political platform for the 2027 elections.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">After ADC\u2019s 12 National Executive and National Working Committee meetings, the founding chairman Ralph Nwosu and other leaders agreed to step aside and endorsed former Senate President David Mark as Interim National Chairman and ex\u2011Osun Governor Rauf Aregbesola as Interim National Secretary.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">But in suit FHC\/ABJ\/CS\/1328\/2025 filed on July 4, Adeyemi Emmanuel, Ayodeji Victor Tolu and Haruna Ismaila, asked the court to determine the legality of the interim leadership.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">They argued that Nwosu lacks the right to convene either a national working committee (NWC) or national executive committee (NEC) meeting or any other since his tenure as national chairman has expired.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">The plaintiffs also stated that interim executives \u201ccannot and should not act\u201d in a leadership capacity, noting that they were appointed by an illegal meeting organised by a national chairman whose tenure has expired.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">They are asking the court to declare the appointment of Mark, Aregbesola, and Abdullahi as \u201cunconstitutional, unlawful, null, and void\u201d.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">The plaintiffs also prayed the court for an order restraining the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognizing the new executives.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">No date has been fixed for hearing as at the time of filling this report.<\/div>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Myke Agunwa Three members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have approached the Federal High Court in Abuja asking the court to nullify the takeover of the party by&hellip;<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on wp_trim_excerpt --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on wp_trim_excerpt --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on wp_trim_excerpt --><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":112201,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_lmt_disableupdate":"","_lmt_disable":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[5],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-120463","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.8 -
