The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, July 15, 2025, a public holiday in honour of Nigeria\u2019s late former President, Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on Sunday.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
This was announced by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, following the approval of President Bola Tinubu, as part of the seven-day national mourning period declared on Sunday, July 13, 2025.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Dr. Tunji-Ojo said the declaration was a mark of respect for the former President\u2019s life of service, dedication to the country, and enduring contributions to national development.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u201cPresident Muhammadu Buhari served Nigeria with dedication, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to the unity and progress of our great nation,\u201d the Minister stated. \u201cThis public holiday provides an opportunity for all Nigerians to reflect on his life, leadership, and the values he upheld.\u201d<\/div>\n

He urged Nigerians to use the day to honour Buhari\u2019s memory by embracing peace, patriotism, and national unity \u2014 values the late President stood for throughout his life and time in office.<\/div>\n

As part of the mourning observance, the national flag is to continue flying at half-mast across the country until Saturday, July 19, 2025, in accordance with the directive from the presidency.<\/div>\n

In its condolence message, the Federal Government expressed sympathy to the late President\u2019s family, the people of Katsina State, and all Nigerians.<\/div>\n

\u201cThe Federal Government extends its deepest condolences to the family of the late President, the people of Katsina State, and all Nigerians, while praying for the peaceful repose of his soul,\u201d said Dr. Magdalene Ajani, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, in a statement released on Monday.<\/div>\n

President Muhammadu Buhari, a former military Head of State and two-term civilian President, is remembered for his strong anti-corruption stance, leadership style anchored on discipline, and commitment to national unity.<\/div>\n
