{"id":120721,"date":"2025-07-16T18:57:54","date_gmt":"2025-07-16T17:57:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=120721"},"modified":"2025-07-16T18:57:54","modified_gmt":"2025-07-16T17:57:54","slug":"obi-visits-buharis-family-in-daura","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/obi-visits-buharis-family-in-daura\/","title":{"rendered":"Obi visits Buhari\u2019s family in Daura"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">By Myke Agunwa<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">The presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, has paid a condolence visit to the family of late former President, Muhammadu Buhari in Daura, Katsina State.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">Obi who was sighted alongside former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, Ex-Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasiru El-Rufai, and other dignitaries on Wednesday, signed the condolence register and participated in prayers and other activities in honour of the late former President.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">Speaking with journalists after signing the register, Obi said he could not attend the burial ceremony on Tuesday because of flight landing restrictions at the Katsina airport.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">He said, \u201cYes, it was difficult to come here yesterday because there were no flights.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cEven if you had a flight, you couldn\u2019t land at Katsina Airport. It was all closed because of the number of dignitaries attending the burial.\u201d<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">The former Anambra State governor, however, stressed that paying respects to the dead transcends the day of burial, noting that his visit was still within the traditional mourning period.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cIt is believed that the mourning continues today and tomorrow. Whoever comes today or tomorrow is still part of the mourning,\u201d he said.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">Recalling the last moments he shared with the late Buhari Obi continued,<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI had the opportunity of meeting him while I was campaigning, and I remember his words to this day: \u2018Please care for the poor Nigerians\u2019. That\u2019s what I always remember.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cAnd I believe he did his best within his capacity. I remember vividly his sincere appeal for fighting and caring for the poor.\u201d<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">Reflecting on Buhari\u2019s passing, Obi said the former president\u2019s death serves as a solemn reminder of the transient nature of power and life itself.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0\u201cWe all have to learn how to serve our country, knowing that one day we will be called back by our creator,\u201d he said.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">Buhari who died on Sunday at a private clinic in London after a protracted illness, was buried on Tuesday in Daura, according to Islamic rites. He was a political arrowhead in the north who identified with the \u2018talakawas\u2019 and had massive political followership.
