Afrobeats maestro, Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, has declared himself the future of the genre, confidently asserting his role in shaping the global direction of African music.<\/div>\n

The Mavin Records and Jonzing World star made the statement during a\u00a0 chat with entertainment journalists on in Benin City, Edo State capital.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Rema spoke about his artistic evolution, the global explosion of Afrobeats, and his aspirations for years ahead.<\/div>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not just riding the wave, I am the wave. I am the future of Afrobeats,\u201d Rema said. \u201cI came into the game with a unique sound and vision. Now the world is moving to that sound. That tells me I\u2019m not just part of the movement; I\u2019m leading it.\u201d<\/div>\n

The 24-year-old artist, who shot to international fame with hits like Dumebi, Calm Down, and Bounce, emphasized the importance of staying original and refusing to be boxed in.<\/div>\n

According to him, Afrobeats is constantly evolving, and he represents the next frontier of that evolution.<\/div>\n

Rema, whose Calm Down remix with American singer Selena Gomez, broke global streaming records, noted that while Afrobeats has had iconic figures in the past, the new generation is now redefining its soundscape and cultural reach.<\/div>\n

\u201cWe respect legends like Wizkid, Burna Boy, Davido and others. They laid bricks,\u201d he said. \u201cBut this new era is different. It\u2019s more global, more versatile, more expressive. I\u2019m here to shape that future.\u201d<\/div>\n

You’d recall how Rema recently achieved a significant milestone when he returned to his hometown Benin city for a major concert. The show was a massive success, drawing a sold-out crowd and reaffirming his deep-rooted connection to his Edo roots.<\/div>\n

As part of the historic homecoming, the revered Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty Oba Ewuare II, received Rhema in a private audience and honoured him with royal blessings.<\/div>\n

\u00a0In a symbolic gesture that underscored Rema\u2019s rising influence and cultural pride, the Oba presented him with the symbolic keys to the city ,\u00a0 recognizing him as a dear son of the state and a true Ambassador of Benin to the world.<\/div>\n

Speaking on his upcoming projects, Rema hinted at genre-blending experiments, global collaborations, and a possible world tour.<\/div>\n
