The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has announced that its elective National Convention will hold in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital from Saturday, November 15 to Sunday, November 16, 2025.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The party also scheduled another National Executive Committee (NEC) for Monday, August 25, 2025 to tidy all lose ends ahead of the convention.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Briefing journalist at the end of its 101 NEC meeting on Thursday at the party’s headquarters in Abuja, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, said that the Acting National Chairman and National Secretary have been directed to formally notify the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of the planned convention.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Reading the communique, Ologunagba said, “In its determination to preserve all the electoral mandate given to our Party by Nigerians across the country, NEC directed the National Working Committee to take immediate legal action to recover the seats of all serving members of the National and State Assemblies elected on the platform of the PDP but defected to another Party.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“By virtue of the self-executory provision of Sections 68 (1) (g) and 109 (1) (g) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) such defectors have irredeemably lost their seats, there being no division or merger with regard to the PDP.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“NEC expressed serious concern and frowns at the reported participation and involvement of some Party members in the activities, meetings and gathering of another political party. NEC calls on these members to reconsider their actions and show loyalty and commitment as members of the PDP especially as the law does not permit membership of two political Parties at the same time.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“NEC reassures such members of the successes recorded so far towards addressing their concerns on issues relating to our Party.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
“NEC reassures all Party members and Nigerians that the PDP remains a strong, united, cohesive, stable and focused political Party repositioned to effectively play its role as the leading opposition Party in galvanizing all efforts towards rescuing our dear nation from the catastrophic misrule of the All Progressives Congress (APC).<\/div>\n

“NEC restates that the PDP as the leading opposition Party and platform of choice for all Nigerians remains open in working with other well-meaning and like-minded citizens in the collective effort to rescue our nation from the stranglehold of the rudderless and insensitive APC administration”.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The meeting also approved the membership of the National Convention Committee and the Zoning Committee, aimed at ensuring a transparent and credible electoral process.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Ologunagba stated that the party leadership expressed satisfaction with the resolution of internal disputes, describing it as a demonstration of the PDP\u2019s commitment to dialogue and unity. He added that the party remains united, strong, and well-positioned to offer a credible alternative to the All Progressives Congress (APC).<\/div>\n

The party reaffirmed its willingness to collaborate with like-minded individuals and groups in what it described as a collective effort to rescue Nigeria from the APC-led administration.<\/div>\n

Recall the the PDP Governors Forum had earlier appointed\u00a0 Bayelsa State governor, Senator Douye Diri alongside governors of Zamfara and Plateau states, Dauda Lawal and Caleb Mutfwang, as chairman, vice chair and secretary respectively of the party’s zoning committee ahead of the party\u2019s national convention.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The forum equally recommended the constitution of a National Convention Committee to be headed by the Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, with Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State as vice chair and the Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, as secretary.<\/div>\n
Six representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were present at the NEC meeting.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The NEC meeting was attended by governors Caleb Muftwang (Plateau), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), Ademola Adeleke (Oyo) and Ahmadu Fintri (Adamawa).<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Others are former governor of Ondo State Olagunaoye Oyinlola, former Minister of Special Duties Tanimu Turaki, former Deputy Chairman South Olabide George and other members.<\/div>\n
