{"id":121170,"date":"2025-08-02T21:24:35","date_gmt":"2025-08-02T20:24:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=121170"},"modified":"2025-08-02T21:24:35","modified_gmt":"2025-08-02T20:24:35","slug":"nerc-hands-over-nasarawa-electricity-to-regulator","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/nerc-hands-over-nasarawa-electricity-to-regulator\/","title":{"rendered":"NERC Hands Over Nasarawa Electricity to Regulator"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>Daniel Adaji<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has formally transferred regulatory oversight of the electricity market in Nasarawa State to the Nasarawa State Electricity Regulatory Commission (NASERC).<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>NERC disclosed this in a statement posted on its social media platforms on Saturday, explaining that the move was in compliance with the amended Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (CFRN) and the Electricity Act 2023 (Amended).<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u201cIn compliance with the amended Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (CFRN) and the Electricity Act 2023 (Amended), the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (\u201cNERC\u201d or the \u201cCommission\u201d) has issued an order to transfer regulatory oversight of the electricity market in Nasarawa State from the Commission to the Nasarawa State Electricity Regulatory Commission (NASERC),\u201d the Commission stated.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The Electricity Act 2023 empowers states wishing to regulate intrastate electricity markets to formally notify NERC and request the transfer of authority to their respective regulators. Under the amended law, NERC retains its role as the central regulator overseeing inter-state and international generation, transmission, supply, trading, and system operations.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The transfer order issued by NERC also directs the Abuja Electricity Distribution Plc (AEDC) to create a subsidiary, AEDC SubCo, that will take over the intrastate supply and distribution of electricity in Nasarawa State.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u201cAEDC shall complete the incorporation of AEDC SubCo within 60 days from 4th August 2025,\u201d the Commission stated, adding that the new entity must obtain a licence from NASERC to operate within the state.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>According to the Commission, all transfers outlined in the order are expected to be finalised by 3rd February 2026.<\/div>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Daniel Adaji The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has formally transferred regulatory oversight of the electricity market in Nasarawa State to the Nasarawa State Electricity Regulatory Commission (NASERC).
