{"id":121225,"date":"2025-08-05T02:30:09","date_gmt":"2025-08-05T01:30:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=121225"},"modified":"2025-08-05T02:30:09","modified_gmt":"2025-08-05T01:30:09","slug":"bbnaija-faces-legal-threat-as-lawyer-petitions-nbc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/bbnaija-faces-legal-threat-as-lawyer-petitions-nbc\/","title":{"rendered":"BBNaija Faces Legal Threat As Lawyer Petitions NBC"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>By Lizzy Chirkpi<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Prominent human rights lawyer and activist, Maduabuchi Idam, has filed a formal petition with the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), calling for the immediate ban or strict regulation of the ongoing Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) reality show over what he describes as &#8220;obscene, indecent, and profane\u201d content.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>This is contained in a letter titled \u201cUrgent need to ban or regulate the content of the television programme \u2018Big Brother Naija\u2019 for obscene, indecent, and profane content, pursuant to the NBC Act 1999.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>He accused the show of airing sexually explicit and morally degrading content on both television and social media platforms, warning that its continued broadcast poses a threat to public decency and national values.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u201cThe show is not only aired on national TV but its profane content is proudly shared on the verified social media handles of the host company, in total disregard for public morality,\u201d Idam stated.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>According to the lawyer, BBNaija&#8217;s 18+ age rating does little to restrict its reach, particularly among minors who can easily access clips online.
