{"id":121248,"date":"2025-08-06T13:21:07","date_gmt":"2025-08-06T12:21:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=121248"},"modified":"2025-08-06T13:21:07","modified_gmt":"2025-08-06T12:21:07","slug":"ecowas-parliament-launches-anti-drug-mental-health-awareness-campaign-in-liberia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/ecowas-parliament-launches-anti-drug-mental-health-awareness-campaign-in-liberia\/","title":{"rendered":"ECOWAS Parliament Launches Anti-Drug, Mental Health Awareness Campaign in Liberia"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">By Lizzy Chirkpi<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">In a bid to tackle the growing crisis of drug abuse and mental health disorders across West Africa, the Parliament of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has launched a high-level awareness campaign in Monrovia, Liberia.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">Running from August 4 to 8, 2025, the initiative marks the latest phase of a regional sensitization drive that previously made stops in Conakry, Guinea, and Freetown, Sierra Leone in June.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">The campaign seeks to draw national attention to the alarming rise in substance abuse and related mental health challenges, particularly among youth and vulnerable populations across the region.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">Led by a delegation of ECOWAS parliamentarians and supported by parliamentary staff, the Monrovia mission includes active engagements with key national stakeholders such as government ministries, health professionals, civil society groups, local authorities, and recovering youths. The delegation is also conducting field visits to drug treatment and rehabilitation centers in the Liberian capital.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThis is not just about awareness\u2014it is about action.
