The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced an increase in passport application fees, with new rates set to take effect from September 1, 2025.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
In a statement released on Thursday and signed by the Service Public Relations Officer, ACI AS Akinlabi, the NIS disclosed that the revised fees will apply only to applications made within Nigeria.<\/div>\n

According to the announcement, the 32-page passport with a five-year validity will now cost \u20a6100,000, while the 64-page passport with a 10-year validity has been pegged at \u20a6200,000.<\/div>\n

\u201cThe review, which only affects Passport Application fees made in Nigeria, now sets a new fee threshold for 32-page with 5-year validity at \u20a6100,000 and 64-page with 10-year validity at \u20a6200,000,\u201d the statement read.<\/div>\n

However, the service emphasized that Nigerians applying from abroad will not be affected by the new rates. Application fees for the diaspora remain unchanged at $150 for the 32-page, five-year passport, and $230 for the 64-page, 10-year passport.<\/div>\n

The NIS explained that the adjustment is necessary to preserve the quality and integrity of the Nigerian passport, as well as to ensure continued accessibility for citizens.<\/div>\n

This development marks the second fee hike in just over a year. In August 2024, the Federal Government approved an earlier upward review that took effect on September 1, 2024. At that time, passport fees were raised from \u20a635,000 to \u20a650,000 for the 32-page, five-year passport, and from \u20a670,000 to \u20a6100,000 for the 64-page, 10-year booklet.<\/div>\n

Then, as now, the NIS defended the increase as necessary for sustaining document quality and improving service delivery.<\/div>\n
