The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the final register of voters for the November 8, 2025, Anambra State governorship election, putting the total number of eligible voters at 2,802,790.<\/div>\n

The Commission made this known in a statement issued on Thursday, September 4, 2025, after its weekly meeting in Abuja, where it also reviewed progress on the registration of new political parties.<\/div>\n

According to the statement signed by Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, a total of 168,187 persons registered as new voters during the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise conducted across Anambra\u2019s 326 wards between July 8 and July 20, 2025.<\/div>\n

Following the mandatory display of the register for claims and objections from July 26 to August 1, and further checks using the Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS), 27,817 entries were identified as multiple or invalid registrations and removed from the roll.<\/div>\n

\u201cThis process underscores our commitment to maintaining a credible voter register,\u201d the Commission said. \u201cEvery effort has been made to ensure that only genuine and valid entries remain on the register.\u201d<\/div>\n

With the clean-up, INEC confirmed that 140,370 fresh registrants were added to the roll, along with 5,983 transfers into Anambra State, bringing the total new additions to 146,353 voters.<\/div>\n

Before the exercise, Anambra had 2,656,437 registered voters. With the latest update, the final figure now stands at 2,802,790.<\/div>\n

Providing further details, the Commission gave a breakdown by Local Government Area. Idemili North leads with 246,318 voters (8.79%), followed by Awka South with 216,611 (7.73%) and Ogbaru with 188,016 (6.71%). On the other end, Dunukofia and Anambra West recorded the lowest figures with 83,580 (2.98%) and 71,332 (2.55%) respectively.<\/div>\n

INEC reassured the electorate that Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) for new registrants, transfers, and replacements would be available well before the election.<\/div>\n
\u201cWe urge all registered voters to collect their PVCs as soon as they are ready,\u201d it said. \u201cNo citizen should be disenfranchised for lack of access to their voter card.\u201d<\/div>\n

On the issue of political party registration, INEC disclosed that it has now received 171 letters of intent from associations seeking to register as political parties, with 19 fresh applications submitted since its last update.<\/div>\n

However, the Commission expressed concern over delays caused by some of the groups.<\/div>\n
\u201cSome associations frequently change their logos, acronyms, addresses, or leadership structures, while others have submitted multiple requests or witnessed defections of interim leaders to rival associations or already registered parties,\u201d the statement noted. \u201cThese practices undermine the consistency required for the registration process.\u201d<\/div>\n

Despite these challenges, INEC assured that the process would be fair and transparent.<\/div>\n
\u201cWe appeal to all groups to remain patient and consistent,\u201d the Commission said. \u201cEvery application will be thoroughly and impartially considered in line with the requirements of the law.\u201d<\/div>\n
