President of the Supreme Council of Sharia in Nigeria, Dr. Datti Ahmed and civil rights activist Shehu Sanni have both pulled out of the Boko Haram Anesty Committee set up by President Goodluck Jonathan.<\/p>\n
While Sanni, the president of Kaduna-based Civil Rights Congress (CRC) pulled out because he claimed he was not personally informed about his inclusion in the committee, Dr. Ahmed, a renowned Medical Doctor has not made his reasons public.<\/p>\n
President Goodluck Jonathan had on wednesday constituted a fresh\u00a0 body, the\u00a0 Presidential Committee on Dialogue and Peaceful Resolution of Security Challenges in the North, in his bid to end the\u00a0 Boko Haram insurgency.<\/p>\n
The\u00a0\u00a0 26- member Presidential Committee on Dialogue and Peaceful Resolution of Security Challenges in the North\u00a0\u00a0 is saddled with the responsibility of engaging members of Boko Haram\u00a0 in dialogue and designing a framework for resolving the violence precipitated by them.<\/p>\n
The\u00a0 terms of reference of the committee\u00a0 headed by the Minister of Special Duties, Kabiru Turaki, include developing a framework for the granting of amnesty; designing another\u00a0 (framework)\u00a0 through which
\ndisarmament could take place within 60 days;\u00a0 developing a comprehensive victims\u2019 support programme, and\u00a0 designing\u00a0 mechanisms to address the underlying causes of insurgencies that will help to prevent future occurrences.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
