The controversial national secretary of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Hon. Sunday Udeh-okoye from Enugu State who spent barely one week in office, has resigned from the opposition party.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Similarly, the member representing Ezeagu in the Enugu State Assembly and chairman of the Committee on Works, Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Chima Obieze has joined the APC.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Udeh-Okoye accused the party of deviating from its founding principles of unity, justice, and equity.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
However, it is believed that the move is part of a larger plan for the eventual defection of the governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah from the PDP into the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
In a resignation letter dated October 13, 2025, and addressed to the PDP ward chairman in Agbogugu Ward, Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State, Mr Udeh-Okoye said his decision followed \u201cdeep reflection and careful consideration.\u201d<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u201cThis decision did not come lightly,\u201d he wrote. \u201cThe PDP has been an integral part of my political journey, offering me the invaluable opportunity to contest and serve as a member of the Enugu State House of Assembly, the national youth leader of the party, and most recently, as the national secretary.\u201d<\/div>\n

Mr Udeh-Okoye, who expressed gratitude to the PDP for shaping his political career, lamented that the party had deviated from its founding principles of unity, justice, and equity.<\/div>\n

\u201cOver time, I have watched with increasing concern as the ideals and vision of the founding fathers of the PDP, built on the principles of unity, justice, and equity, have been eroded,\u201d he stated. \u201cThe PDP that once stood as a beacon of hope for democratic governance has regrettably lost its moral compass and ideological direction.\u201d<\/div>\n

The former national youth leader added that his resignation was driven by conscience and a desire to pursue a new political path committed to restoring democratic values.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u201cAfter much contemplation, I have come to the solemn conclusion that I can no longer, in good conscience, remain within a system that has strayed so far from its original purpose,\u201d he wrote.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u201cTherefore, I am compelled to part ways with the PDP as I embark on a progressive journey dedicated to restoring the values of democracy, accountability, and service to the people, which the party has sadly abandoned.\u201d<\/div>\n

Mr Udeh-Okoye thanked the ward executives and party members at all levels for their \u201csupport, friendship, and shared moments of service.\u201d<\/div>\n

Pointblanknews.com reported that the South East had nominated Udeh-Okoye to replace Sen. Samuel Anyanwu as PDP national secretary when he (Anyanwu) won the Imo State PDP party\u2019s governorship ticket in 2023.<\/div>\n

Backed by the Enugu State PDP leadership, Udeh-Okoye argued that the position, zoned to the South-East, should naturally revert to Enugu after Anyanwu\u2019s departure. The Enugu PDP executives formally nominated him and accused the National Working Committee (NWC) of bias for delaying his recognition. The standoff escalated when Enugu PDP chairman, Augustine Nnamani, and other leaders threatened to cut ties with the national body if Udeh-Okoye was not officially acknowledged.<\/div>\n

Despite mounting pressure and protests, the NWC maintained its stance, insisting that the dispute would be resolved by the National Executive Committee.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Obieze in his resignation notice to his constituents wrote, \u201cAs a man who is first a leader, and then a politician. I wish to state that though my Political Party may change. As is nearly everything created under the sun. But the only thing that will never change is our love and commitment to the people. The political ideology centered on the people\u2019s development, empowerment, growth, and safety.<\/div>\n

\u201cThis ideology is for me and those who share my vision, one which can never change. I hope that this move, provides us with stronger platforms and opportunities to continue to bring succor to our people. This is assuring all those who believe in me, that my commitment to the people, to good governance, to development and empowerment, to Christian principles, and to the rule of Law, will never change. So help me God!<\/div>\n

\u201cAs always, I have a reputation for making my stands and position on issues known and standing by my convictions against all odds. God forbid that a day shall come when I will be said to be here and there. So as we approach the 2027 general elections, I have no ambitions other than to remain absolutely, loyally, committedly, and consistently supportive to H. E. Gov. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah. I believe in his vision for a new Enugu State and I shall stand with him to the very end. Come what may. God bless you all\u201d Obieze wrote.<\/div>\n

The state governor is expected to join the APC on Tuesday.<\/div>\n
