{"id":123101,"date":"2025-10-21T21:16:28","date_gmt":"2025-10-21T20:16:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=123101"},"modified":"2025-10-21T21:16:28","modified_gmt":"2025-10-21T20:16:28","slug":"16-military-officers-arrested-over-alleged-plot-to-overthrow-tinubu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/16-military-officers-arrested-over-alleged-plot-to-overthrow-tinubu\/","title":{"rendered":"16 Military Officers Arrested over Alleged Plot to Overthrow Tinubu"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>Unconfirmed reports have it that about 16 military officers have been arrested over an alleged attempt to oust President Bola Tinubu from power.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Though the military has publicly described the arrests as disciplinary actions linked to \u201cfailure in promotion examinations\u201d and \u201ccareer stagnation,\u201d top security sources claimed the officers were actually accused of plotting a coup d\u2019\u00e9tat.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, in a statement, said the arrests followed a \u201croutine military exercise,\u201d citing \u201cindiscipline and breach of service regulations.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>However, intelligence\u00a0 reportedly gathered by the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) uncovered a plan allegedly led by a Brigadier General to seize power from what the conspirators termed \u201cselfish politicians.\u201d The officers, said to range from Captains to senior commanders, were picked up at various locations across the country.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Sources further disclosed that the October 1 Independence Day parade was cancelled after authorities discovered the plotters allegedly planned to strike during the ceremony targeting the President and other top government officials.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The arrested officers are currently being detained at the DIA facility in Abuja.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Nigeria has recorded five successful coups since gaining independence in 1960.<\/div>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Unconfirmed reports have it that about 16 military officers have been arrested over an alleged attempt to oust President Bola Tinubu from power.
