Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja, on Thursday confirmed that he had signed and approved the witness summons requested by the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, for service on several prominent Nigerians.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Among those listed to testify in the terrorism trial are the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike; Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State; Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State; and two former Chiefs of Army Staff, Generals Theophilus Yakubu (TY) Danjuma and Tukur Buratai.<\/div>\n

Justice Omotosho, while addressing the court, disclosed that the summons were ready for dispatch and directed Kanu to personally collect and serve them on the witnesses in accordance with legal procedure.<\/div>\n

He said: \u201cThe witness summons have been signed and are available for the defendant to collect and serve on the listed individuals as required by law.\u201d<\/div>\n

Kanu had, in a notice of defence filed on October 21, named several former and serving governors, ministers, and military chiefs as witnesses he wished to compel to appear and testify in his case.<\/div>\n

The IPOB leader is standing trial on terrorism-related charges brought against him by the Federal Government of Nigeria. He is accused of treasonable felony, terrorism, running an unlawful organization (IPOB), inciting violence and public disorder, as well as using Radio Biafra broadcasts from abroad to promote secessionist activities and encourage attacks on security personnel and public institutions.<\/div>\n
