{"id":123960,"date":"2025-11-21T08:21:49","date_gmt":"2025-11-21T07:21:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=123960"},"modified":"2025-11-21T08:21:49","modified_gmt":"2025-11-21T07:21:49","slug":"hakimi-chebbak-win-top-honours-as-morocco-shines-at-2025-caf-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/hakimi-chebbak-win-top-honours-as-morocco-shines-at-2025-caf-awards\/","title":{"rendered":"Hakimi, Chebbak Win Top Honours as Morocco Shines at 2025 CAF Awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">By Oscar Okhifo<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">Morocco enjoyed a landmark night at the 2025 CAF Awards in Rabat, with Achraf Hakimi and Ghizlane Chebbak crowned Africa\u2019s best male and female players respectively, ending a 27-year wait for the country to reclaim the continent\u2019s top individual football honour.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">Hakimi, 27, beat Egypt\u2019s Mohamed Salah and Nigeria\u2019s Victor Osimhen to the men\u2019s award after a stellar season in which he helped Paris Saint-Germain clinch the French league title and their first-ever Champions League trophy.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">The right-back, who narrowly missed the award in 2023 and 2024, becomes the first Moroccan to take the prize since Mustapha Hadji in 1998.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">Hakimi scored the opener in PSG\u2019s dominant 5\u20130 victory over Inter Milan in the Champions League final and added the UEFA Super Cup, Coupe de France and French Super Cup to his club\u2019s trophy cabinet.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">He is, however, in a race against time to be fit for the Africa Cup of Nations on home soil after sustaining ankle ligament damage earlier this month.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThis trophy is not just for me, it is for all Africans who have dreams,\u201d Hakimi said while receiving his award, carefully balancing on his uninjured foot.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">Morocco\u2019s celebrations doubled as women\u2019s captain Ghizlane Chebbak upset Nigeria\u2019s Rasheedat Ajibade and team-mate Sanaa Mssoudy to win the Women\u2019s Player of the Year award,\u00a0 making her the first Moroccan to lift the honour since its creation in 2001.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0The 35-year-old was the top scorer at the delayed 2024 Women\u2019s Africa Cup of Nations, where Morocco finished as runners-up to Nigeria.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI am extremely delighted to receive this award,\u201d Chebbak said.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThis is the fruit of many years of hard work.\u201d<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">There were more notable wins across the continent.
