{"id":124110,"date":"2025-11-30T17:49:46","date_gmt":"2025-11-30T16:49:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=124110"},"modified":"2025-11-30T17:49:46","modified_gmt":"2025-11-30T16:49:46","slug":"pdp-rights-lawyer-fault-tinubus-ambassadorial-nominees","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/pdp-rights-lawyer-fault-tinubus-ambassadorial-nominees\/","title":{"rendered":"PDP, Rights Lawyer Fault Tinubu\u2019s Ambassadorial Nominees\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"m#msg-f:1850163140756743681\" class=\"mail-message expanded\">\n<div id=\"m#msg-f:1850163140756743681-header\" class=\"mail-message-header spacer\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">By Oscar Okhifo<\/div>\n<div id=\"m#msg-f:1850163140756743681-content\" class=\"mail-message-content collapsible zoom-normal mail-show-images \">\n<div class=\"clear\">\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned the ambassadorial nominees forwarded to the Senate by President Bola Tinubu, describing the list as \u201cscandalous\u201d and unfit to project Nigeria\u2019s image abroad.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">In a statement issued in Abuja on Saturday and titled \u201cAmbassadorial list: Scandalous and reflective of presidential values,\u201d the party said the nominations expose the values of the current administration and threaten Nigeria\u2019s diplomatic credibility.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">The PDP, through its spokesman Comrade Ini Ememobong, said many Nigerians were angered by the names on the list, though the party claimed the development was not surprising considering what it called the government\u2019s antecedents.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cIt is an incontestable fact that nominees are a direct reflection of the nominator. By putting forward these persons, the President has revealed the kind of people he considers fit to represent Nigeria in foreign lands,\u201d the statement read.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">The party also faulted the nearly three-year delay in producing the list, saying it underscored a shortage of \u201cexcellent hands\u201d within the President\u2019s political circle.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">The PDP singled out the nomination of former INEC chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, accusing him of presiding over an electoral body that failed to meet public expectations. According to the opposition party, offering Yakubu an ambassadorial position amounts to rewarding failure and sets a dangerous precedent ahead of the 2027 general elections.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cTo nominate him at a time like this is completely unacceptable and sends the wrong signal to those currently entrusted with conducting future elections,\u201d the party said.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">The PDP warned that a country\u2019s international respect is tied to the integrity of its leadership and diplomatic representatives, stressing that appointing individuals with questionable records would damage Nigeria\u2019s reputation. The party therefore demanded that President Tinubu withdraw the list immediately and submit a fresh one made up of nominees with proven integrity, sound democratic credentials, and the moral authority to adequately represent Nigeria on the global stage.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">Similarly,human rights lawyer,\u00a0 Inibehe Effiong expressed dismay over the list, saying; &#8220;Those who have contributed to Nigeria\u2019s destruction are largely the ones nominated to be the image and voice of the country abroad.
