{"id":124718,"date":"2025-12-30T22:46:11","date_gmt":"2025-12-30T21:46:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=124718"},"modified":"2025-12-30T22:46:11","modified_gmt":"2025-12-30T21:46:11","slug":"tinubu-rejects-suspension-calls-vows-full-implementation-of-tax-laws","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/exclusive\/tinubu-rejects-suspension-calls-vows-full-implementation-of-tax-laws\/","title":{"rendered":"Tinubu Rejects Suspension Calls, Vows Full Implementation of Tax Laws"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"m#msg-f:1852968193151839380\" class=\"mail-message expanded\">\n<div id=\"m#msg-f:1852968193151839380-header\" class=\"mail-message-header spacer\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">By Lizzy Chirkpi<\/div>\n<div id=\"m#msg-f:1852968193151839380-content\" class=\"mail-message-content collapsible zoom-normal mail-show-images \">\n<div class=\"clear\">\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">President Bola Tinubu has insisted that his administration will proceed with the implementation of the newly enacted tax laws, despite ongoing public debate and calls in some quarters for a suspension of the reforms.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">In a statement he personally signed and released on Tuesday, the President said the government remains committed to the reform timetable, explaining that while some provisions of the new tax laws came into force on June 26, 2025, others will take effect from January 1, 2026.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">Tinubu described the reforms as a historic opportunity to overhaul Nigeria\u2019s tax architecture and build a system that is fairer, more competitive and sustainable.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to him, the reforms are not designed to impose additional tax pressure on Nigerians, but to correct long-standing structural weaknesses, streamline administration and restore confidence in the system.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThe new tax laws are not intended to raise taxes.
