*Will save Nigeria over N1.5trn<\/p>\n
A recent policy approved by President Bola Tinubu mandating the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) to debar contractors who fail to execute or poorly execute jobs, is ensuring better service delivery projects-wise, the bureau’s Director-General, Dr. Adebowale Adedokun, has said.<\/p>\n
The DG, who disclosed that reforms by the bureau helped Nigeria save over N1 trillion in 2025, projected that building on the reforms would assist the country save over N1.5 trillion in 2026.<\/p>\n
Adedokun, who spoke at the weekend in Lagos, expressed delight that President Tinubu’s approval and support for ongoing reforms at the BPP, are helping the Bureau attain its goals of service delivery to Nigerians.<\/p>\n
“Mr. President has been of great support to what we are doing at the BPP. Take Mr. President’s debarment policy on contractors ,for example. With the new policy which Mr. President recently approved, any contractor who does a bad job, or fails to deliver quality work, that contractor now knows that he or she can be blacklisted by the BPP,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cOnce a contractor who has collected government money refuses to do the job, does a substandard job, or did not complete the job, we will recommend blacklisting of that company\u2014not only in Nigeria but around the world,” he added.<\/p>\n
The DG was quick to add that while erring contractors will be punished for bad jobs, those who deliver quality work will be encouraged and rewarded with more jobs.<\/p>\n
On the effect of the debarment policy, the DG said contractors are now fully aware of the consequences of poor performance, and that as such, the quality of service delivery across board has been impressive.<\/p>\n
\u201cA lot has changed. Pease take a ride to the ongoing Lagos-Calabar; coastal highway and see the quality of job. Go and inspect the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano expressway. You will see good quality job. Those who have been plying the Keffi – Abuja highway will tell you that they’ve not seen that quality of work before,” he noted.<\/p>\n
“Even if you look at the power sector. It haz witnessed a lot of improvement. This is because we are insisting that the right materials be used. That the right things are done, to specification. We insist that every equipment or material that must be bought must meet international specifications,” Adedokun added.<\/p>\n
Aside the debarment policy, the BPP boss disclosed that other reforms such as “Nigeria First” which aims at promoting local content and vulnerable groups in line with President Tinubu\u2019s Renewed Hope commitments, is helping to boost Nigeria’s economy.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
