Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has received strong backing from prominent leaders in Abia State, who called on the Igbo to correct past political missteps and rally behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu\u2019s administration ahead of the 2027 elections.<\/div>\n

In a statement signed by Levinus Nwabughiogu, Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Speaker, the assurances came during Kalu\u2019s New Year visits to key political figures in Umuahia South Local Government Area, including Senator Chris Adighije, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC).<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The visits highlight Kalu\u2019s commitment to engaging Abia leaders and mobilizing the Igbo community around development-focused governance.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Abia State has historically been politically vibrant, with the Igbo community playing a pivotal role in national elections.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Analysts and local leaders have noted that previous elections saw missed opportunities where strategic voting could have enhanced the region\u2019s influence at the federal level. Kalu, representing Abia, has actively engaged local and regional leaders through legislative initiatives, outreach, and development programs.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
His advocacy for the South East Development Commission and efforts to unite political stakeholders have strengthened his profile across the South East. With the 2027 elections approaching, these efforts reflect a proactive strategy to consolidate support for the APC and encourage meaningful participation by the Igbo in national politics.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
During his visit, Senator Adighije expressed gratitude for Kalu\u2019s outreach, emphasizing that Olokoro Umuahia clan, comprising 17 autonomous communities, is fully aligned with the President\u2019s vision.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u201cI am truly surprised and deeply honored by this visit. Sixteen of the 17 communities are represented here, including the overall President General. The goodwill message from President Bola Tinubu has resonated throughout our clan, one of the three that make up Umuahia South. Last time, we erred in our political choices, and we should not repeat that mistake. Rt. Hon., thank you. May God bless and prolong your life,\u201d he said.<\/div>\n

In his remarks, Kalu urged the people of Abia State and the Igbo community to actively invest in their political future through their votes. \u201cIt is time for Ndi Igbo to start investing their votes, not wasting them. Operation \u2018Invest Your Votes, Don\u2019t Waste Your Votes\u2019 is a call to action. Our votes are the currency that earns us dividends in democracy.<\/div>\n

By sowing now, especially within the southern political corridor where President Bola Ahmed Tinubu currently leads, we can reap benefits for our people in 2027. Let us build unity today so that tomorrow we can demand our fair share. President Tinubu is a leader who rewards loyalty and hard work, and we must stand with him,\u201d Kalu said.<\/div>\n

During another New Year visit, former Abia State House of Assembly member, Hon. Chukwudi Apugo, commended Kalu\u2019s legislative achievements, particularly his role in passing the South East Development Commission Bill, which led to the establishment of the commission. Apugo also pledged his support and encouraged the Deputy Speaker to remain steadfast.<\/div>\n

\u201cYou have done exceedingly well and empowered many. Your impact on Abia and the Igbo region is visible. Your efforts in uniting politicians and advocating for our people have changed the political narrative. You are highly respected, and we will continue to support your initiatives,\u201d Apugo said.<\/div>\n

Kalu, in turn, invited Apugo to formally join the APC, emphasizing that strengthening the party\u2019s base in Abia State is essential. \u201cI know you are focused on your business now, but I want to extend an invitation to join APC. Your father is one of the founding fathers and a Board of Trustees member of the party.<\/div>\n
