Hundreds of PDP supporters in Estako West Local Government Area of Edo on Monday embarked on protest against the outcome of the April 20, local government elections in the area.<\/p>\n
The PDP supporters marched through the major streets of Auchi the headquarters of the local government, chanting war songs for several hours.<\/p>\n
The protesters armed with placards with different inscriptions were not allowed by soldiers to gain entrance to the local government secretariat.<\/p>\n
They demanded for among others, the outright cancellation of the elections held throughout the state, because the elections were alleged to be characterised with malpractice.<\/p>\n
The Chairman of PDP in the area, Mr Baba-Sheriff Idenebomhe, and Mr Sule Asemokhai, spoke on behalf of the protesters.<\/p>\n
According to the duo, we decide to take to the streets to let Nigerians and indeed the world at large, know that no election took place in the local government area.<\/p>\n
They said that those, who were sworn-in as chairmen and councillors were not the representatives of the people, because they did not win the elections.<\/p>\n
Idenebomhe called for the outright cancellation of the elections that took place on April 20, due to manipulation of the entire electoral process.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe want Nigerians to prevail on the state government to conduct a fresh election that will be free and fair to the people of Edo,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
However, in his reaction, the Chairman of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Estako West, Mr Abubakar Akokhia, debunked the allegation that there was no election in the local government.<\/p>\n
