The Police Force on Sunday frustrated plans by a six man robbery gang to break into the Asa Road branch of Diamond Bank Plc in Aba , Abia State.<\/p>\n

Briefing journalists at the crime scene, Aba Area Commander, ACP Rabiu Dayi said the robbers gained entrance into the bank’s premises around 2am Sunday morning but were frustrated operation through the quick intervention of the police team.<\/p>\n

He disclosed that the leader of the gang was killed during the operation while five others escaped through the bank’s fence on sighting the police .<\/p>\n

Dayi stated that the timely response of the Command’s Anti Robbery Squad and other Police Patrol units frustrated efforts made by the robbers to gain access into the bank.<\/p>\n

He disclosed that17 shells of expended bullets, a master key and a GSM handset were recovered at the crime scene.<\/p>\n

Out of the six members of the gang, the leader whom you see lying dead here was killed by the Mobile Police Officer on duty, while other five members of the gang escaped through the backyard fence when they noticed the presence of police team.<\/p>\n

The office- in-charge of the Anti Robbery Unit at the Command, ASP Anari Anari, said that his team has embarked on a manhunt on the fleeing members of the gang, adding that they would smoked out from their hideouts.<\/p>\n

He appealed to the general public to report criminal activities in their areas to the police, warned that the anti robbery squad would stop at nothing in making the commercial city of Abia State and its environs unsafe for criminal activities.<\/p>\n

I am sending a note of warning to all the criminal elements in Aba and its environs. The anti robbery unit in collaboration with other security agencies in Aba will make here unsafe for their operations.<\/p>\n

Peace has returned to Aba and we shall sustain the existing peace in Aba and anybody that would want to make the people of Aba to live in fear should better leave the town or be ready to face the consequences of his or her actions.<\/p>\n

The public should also assist the police) by giving useful information about crime in their areas. We are always on standby for quick response to any distress call.<\/p>\n
