{"id":126874,"date":"2026-05-04T20:48:08","date_gmt":"2026-05-04T19:48:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=126874"},"modified":"2026-05-04T20:48:08","modified_gmt":"2026-05-04T19:48:08","slug":"court-jails-man-over-n1-3m-cement-fraud-in-maiduguri","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/court-jails-man-over-n1-3m-cement-fraud-in-maiduguri\/","title":{"rendered":"Court Jails Man Over N1.3m Cement Fraud in Maiduguri"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">By Lizzy Chirkpi<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">Justice Aisha Kumaliya of the Borno State High Court, sitting in Maiduguri, has convicted and sentenced one Saleh Isa Abdullahi to six months imprisonment for fraud involving N1.34 million.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">The conviction followed his arraignment by the Maiduguri Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on a one-count charge bordering on criminal misappropriation.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">The charge reads: \u201cThat you, Saleh Isa Abdullahi with National Identification Number 83649788566, sometimes in 2024 at Maiduguri, Borno State within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, dishonestly misappropriated and converted to your own use the aggregate sum of N1,34,000.00 (One Million, Three Hundred and Forty Thousand Naira) money belonging to Faruq Muhammad Ali, being amount given to you for the supply of 100 bags of cement which you converted to your personal use without his consent thereby committed an offence contrary to section 296 of the Penal Code Law and other Matters Connected therewith and punishable under Section 297 of the same law.\u201d<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">The defendant pleaded \u201cguilty\u201d to the charge.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">Following the plea, prosecution counsel, Mukhtar Ali Ahmed, urged the court to convict the defendant accordingly, while defence counsel, A.B Usman, pleaded for leniency, noting that the convict had restituted the money and asking the court to temper justice with mercy.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">Justice Kumaliya subsequently sentenced Abdullahi to six months imprisonment, with an option of a N100,000 fine.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">The court heard that the offence stemmed from a transaction in which the convict was entrusted with funds to supply 100 bags of cement but instead diverted the money for personal use, leading to his arrest and prosecution by the EFCC.<\/div>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Lizzy Chirkpi Justice Aisha Kumaliya of the Borno State High Court, sitting in Maiduguri, has convicted and sentenced one Saleh Isa Abdullahi to six months imprisonment for fraud involving&hellip;<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on wp_trim_excerpt --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on wp_trim_excerpt --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on wp_trim_excerpt --><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":107189,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_lmt_disableupdate":"","_lmt_disable":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[5],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-126874","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.8 -
