Yet he failed to produce a single piece of verifiable evidence,&#8221; Shaibu said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;He arrived with accusations. He left with accusations. In between, the evidence never arrived.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The statement argued that the former SGF&#8217;s claims were based on speculation rather than facts, noting that references to unnamed callers, officials and witnesses could not serve as proof of wrongdoing.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Atiku&#8217;s camp further suggested that Lawal&#8217;s criticism was influenced by the outcome of the primary election and the failure of his preferred aspirant to secure the party&#8217;s ticket.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;What the interview ultimately revealed was not a whistleblower exposing wrongdoing, but a disappointed political actor struggling to come to terms with the failure of his preferred candidate,&#8221; the statement said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Shaibu also dismissed suggestions that Atiku manipulated the outcome of the primary, describing the allegation as inconsistent with claims by critics that the former vice president has lost political relevance.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He argued that the theory would require Nigerians to believe that delegates and party members across the country abandoned their independent judgment and voted according to a centrally orchestrated plan.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The statement also referenced Lawal&#8217;s recent remarks about President Bola Tinubu, including his assertion that he could obtain financial assistance from the President with a simple phone call. While stopping short of making direct allegations, Atiku&#8217;s spokesman said Nigerians were capable of drawing their own conclusions from such comments.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Defending Atiku&#8217;s public service record, Shaibu rejected Lawal&#8217;s claim that the former vice president had little to show for his years in government.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He cited Atiku&#8217;s role in economic reforms during the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, particularly the liberalisation of the telecommunications sector, privatisation initiatives, and efforts aimed at expanding private sector participation in the economy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Atiku served as Nigeria&#8217;s vice president from 1999 to 2007 and has remained one of the country&#8217;s most prominent opposition figures, contesting multiple presidential elections.
