{"id":127511,"date":"2026-06-10T16:55:26","date_gmt":"2026-06-10T15:55:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=127511"},"modified":"2026-06-10T16:55:26","modified_gmt":"2026-06-10T15:55:26","slug":"obi-files-%e2%82%a65bn-defamation-suit-against-okonkwo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/obi-files-%e2%82%a65bn-defamation-suit-against-okonkwo\/","title":{"rendered":"Obi Files \u20a65bn Defamation Suit Against Okonkwo"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">By Oscar Okhifo<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">Former Anambra State Governor and Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has filed a \u20a65 billion defamation lawsuit against Nollywood actor and politician, Kenneth Okonkwo, over alleged statements he claims were false, damaging, and capable of harming his public reputation.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">Court filings submitted at the High Court in Abuja accuse Okonkwo of making\u00a0 false, malicious, and defamatory statements capable of undermining Obi\u2019s reputation and public standing.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">The suit follows a period of renewed public disagreements between both men, who were previously political allies during Obi\u2019s 2023 presidential campaign under the Labour Party.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">Okonkwo, who once served as a spokesperson for Obi\u2019s campaign organisation, has recently made a series of public comments critical of the former Anambra governor.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">Reactions have continued to trail the development on social media.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">A supporter identifying himself as \u201cObi-dient Frederick\u201d said Okonkwo had repeatedly used public platforms to attack Obi.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cOkonkwo, in the recent past has been using every available opportunity to pour vituperations on Obi. I am glad that he will have the opportunity now to unmask Obi before a competent court or otherwise face serious legal consequences. How could a man be so bitter and caustic,\u201d he said.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">Another supporter, who identified herself as \u201cObi-dient Franca,\u201d also backed the legal action, linking Okonkwo\u2019s public persona to his acting career.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cSince Kenneth acted the movie \u2018Living in Bondage,\u2019 he has not left his bondage.
