{"id":127756,"date":"2026-06-20T11:53:50","date_gmt":"2026-06-20T10:53:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=127756"},"modified":"2026-06-20T11:53:50","modified_gmt":"2026-06-20T10:53:50","slug":"factional-pdp-lawyers-clash-in-court-over-party-representation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/factional-pdp-lawyers-clash-in-court-over-party-representation\/","title":{"rendered":"Factional PDP Lawyers Clash in Court Over Party Representation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>By John Azu<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A mild drama unfolded at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday as two Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs) appeared separately to represent the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in a suit filed against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), exposing the party\u2019s lingering internal divisions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The suit, marked\u00a0<strong>FHC\/ABJ\/CS\/1159\/2026<\/strong>, was instituted by the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT), led by former Senate President\u00a0<strong>Adolphus Wabara<\/strong>, alongside the party, seeking judicial intervention to compel INEC to recognise and publish the\u00a0<strong>Kabiru Turaki-led interim National Working Committee (NWC)<\/strong>\u00a0on its official records and website.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The plaintiffs had filed the originating summons on June 4 through their counsel,\u00a0<strong>Chris Uche (SAN)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Proceedings took an unexpected turn when two lawyers announced appearances on behalf of the PDP.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">While\u00a0<strong>Gordy Uche (SAN)<\/strong>\u00a0informed the court that he was representing all members of the Board of Trustees as well as the PDP,\u00a0<strong>Sunday Ameh (SAN)<\/strong>\u00a0also rose to announce his appearance for the party, creating confusion over who had the authority to represent the opposition party in the matter.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The development highlighted the ongoing leadership tussle within the PDP and underscored the factional divisions that have continued to trail the party&#8217;s affairs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the suit, the BoT and the PDP are asking the court to direct INEC to immediately update its records and publish the composition of the interim National Working Committee as approved and forwarded by the party\u2019s National Executive Committee (NEC) on May 4.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The plaintiffs include prominent members of the PDP Board of Trustees, among them former Senate President\u00a0<strong>Adolphus Wabara<\/strong>, BoT Secretary and former Niger State Governor\u00a0<strong>Mu&#8217;azu Babangida Aliyu<\/strong>, former Minister of Information\u00a0<strong>Prof. Jerry Gana<\/strong>, and PDP elder statesman\u00a0<strong>Chief Olabode George<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Also listed as plaintiffs are former ministers\u00a0<strong>Maryam Ciroma<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Zainab Maina<\/strong>, as well as BoT and NEC member\u00a0<strong>Dame Esther Uduehi<\/strong>.
