{"id":127853,"date":"2026-06-23T20:25:31","date_gmt":"2026-06-23T19:25:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=127853"},"modified":"2026-06-23T20:25:31","modified_gmt":"2026-06-23T19:25:31","slug":"n8-7bn-money-laundering-trial-witness-details-multi-million-naira-transactions-linked-to-malami","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/n8-7bn-money-laundering-trial-witness-details-multi-million-naira-transactions-linked-to-malami\/","title":{"rendered":"N8.7bn Money Laundering Trial: Witness Details Multi-Million Naira Transactions Linked to Malami"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>By John Azu<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The trial of former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), over an alleged N8.7 billion money laundering scheme continued on Tuesday at the Federal High Court in Abuja, with a prosecution witness detailing several high-value transactions linked to one of the entities at the centre of the case.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The witness, Munawwarah Salisu Anas, a Compliance Officer with Jaiz Bank Plc, testified as the fifth prosecution witness in the case involving Malami, his wife, Hajia Bashir Asabe, and his son, Abubakar Abdulaziz Malami.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The three defendants are facing a 16-count charge filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), bordering on the alleged concealment of the illicit origin of properties located in Abuja, Kebbi and Kano states and valued at over N8.7 billion.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The matter came up before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik following the recusal of Justice Obiora Egwuatu.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Led in evidence by prosecution counsel, Jibrin Okutepa (SAN), Anas told the court that her responsibilities as a compliance officer include liaising with law enforcement agencies, including the EFCC, on financial investigations and regulatory compliance matters.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">She confirmed receiving official correspondence from the anti-graft agency in the course of her duties and identified a letter requesting account-related documents.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">When the prosecution sought to tender the letter dated February 4, 2026, addressed to the Executive Chairman of the EFCC, defence counsel, Adedayo Adedeji (SAN), objected to its admissibility but reserved arguments on the objection until the final written address.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Justice Abdulmalik subsequently admitted the documents into evidence and marked them as Exhibit E Series.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Explaining the contents of the exhibit, the witness stated:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Page one is the forwarding letter, page two is the certificate of identification, pages three to twenty-five are the account opening documents, while pages twenty-six to thirty are the statement of account of Alkausar Farm.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Anas then reviewed the account statement of Alkausar Farm before the court, highlighting a series of transactions recorded in the account.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to her testimony, the account received a cash deposit of N1 million from Hassan Aliyu on June 13, 2018, and another cash deposit of N2.25 million from Aliyu Mohammed on June 20, 2018.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">She further told the court that on December 7, 2018, the account received multiple transfers from Kalamu Wahid Global Concept, including four separate inflows of N10 million each and an additional transfer of N8 million on the same day.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The witness also disclosed that on December 18, 2018, the account recorded a debit transfer of N45.5 million to Donaliv Global Nigeria Limited.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Continuing her testimony, Anas said the account received N26.25 million from Al-Afiya Energy Limited on July 13, 2020, and another N26.25 million from the same company on July 22, 2020.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">She added that on July 24, 2020, the account recorded a transfer debit of N50 million to Sahad Stores Limited and another debit transfer of N1 million to Alfagai Jewelry Nigeria Limited.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to the witness, the account also received a transfer credit of N2.03 million on August 12, 2020. On the same day, a cheque withdrawal of N2.03 million was made by one Aliyu Mohammed Hassan.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">During cross-examination, defence counsel Adedeji asked the witness whether she appeared before the court pursuant to a subpoena.
