{"id":128107,"date":"2026-07-04T08:34:23","date_gmt":"2026-07-04T07:34:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=128107"},"modified":"2026-07-04T08:34:23","modified_gmt":"2026-07-04T07:34:23","slug":"pfipc-controversy-ndc-demands-gbajabiamilas-suspension-independent-probe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/pfipc-controversy-ndc-demands-gbajabiamilas-suspension-independent-probe\/","title":{"rendered":"PFIPC controversy: NDC demands Gbajabiamila&#8217;s suspension, independent probe"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>By Oscar Okhifo<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on President Bola Tinubu to suspend the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, over allegations linking him to the controversial Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), insisting that only an independent investigation can restore public confidence in the Presidency.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The opposition party made the demand in a statement issued on Friday by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, arguing that the seriousness of the allegations surrounding the purported agency requires Gbajabiamila to step aside to allow for a transparent and credible investigation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The demand follows allegations by Prince Mathew Adeniyi Adeyemi, who claims to be the Director-General of the PFIPC, despite the Presidency&#8217;s insistence that the council is neither a recognised government agency nor an entity established by the Federal Government.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to the NDC, the controversy has raised fundamental questions about accountability and oversight within government.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The party argued that there are apparent inconsistencies between the Presidency&#8217;s position and claims that the PFIPC received budgetary allocations, operated domiciliary, Pounds Sterling and Treasury Single Account (TSA) facilities with the Central Bank of Nigeria, and secured approval for 314 personnel from the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It also referred to allegations by Adeyemi that he paid \u20a6600 million to facilitate his appointment as Director-General of the council, claiming that \u20a6400 million was allegedly paid through intermediaries linked to the Chief of Staff, while disagreement later arose over the outstanding \u20a6200 million.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The NDC further cited allegations that Gbajabiamila demanded 48 per cent of the council&#8217;s reported take-off grant, maintaining that the claims are too weighty to be dismissed without an independent investigation.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;These are not mere allegations; they point to a disturbing pattern of institutionalised corruption,&#8221; the statement reads.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The party also expressed concern over the death of Babatunde Tanimola, identified as an alleged intermediary in the matter, who reportedly died in a hotel fire in Abuja in October 2025.
