At no time did former President Goodluck Jonathan make such a statement or grant any interview on the matter,&#8221; Eze said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He noted that the publication failed to provide any evidence to support its claims, including details of when or where the alleged statement was made, or the identities of those said to have approached the former president.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;The story is a fabrication designed to mislead the public and drag the former president into unnecessary political controversy,&#8221; he added.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Eze urged Nigerians to exercise caution when consuming political content online, especially as activities ahead of the 2027 general elections begin to intensify.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He advised the public to rely on credible sources and verify politically sensitive information before sharing it, warning that the spread of false information could fuel unnecessary tension.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The media aide also stressed that Jonathan has not declared any intention to contest the 2027 presidential election and has made no statement suggesting he was approached with any financial inducement to challenge Obi.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He further called on media organisations and digital publishers to uphold the ethics of journalism by thoroughly verifying politically sensitive reports before publication.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The report denied by Jonathan&#8217;s office had alleged that unnamed political interests offered the former president \u20a6500 billion to join the 2027 presidential race in a bid to divide votes in the South-South geopolitical zone and weaken Obi&#8217;s electoral chances.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Jonathan&#8217;s office insisted the claim was entirely fabricated and urged Nigerians to ignore it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The former president, who served as Nigeria&#8217;s president from 2010 to 2015, has repeatedly been the subject of speculation ahead of previous election cycles despite not formally declaring interest in returning to office. Although supporters have at different times urged him to seek another term, Jonathan has consistently refrained from making any public declaration regarding the 2027 race.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The latest denial comes as political alignments and coalition talks continue to shape the build-up to the next general elections, with misinformation and unverified political claims increasingly circulating across social media platforms.
