on Wednesday, for the second time in one week, rejected a motion seeking an independent legislative investigation into the controversy surrounding the alleged Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) and its purported Director-General, Adeniyi Adeyemi.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The upper chamber declined to initiate a fresh probe despite growing public calls for Parliament to investigate the alleged existence of the agency and the controversy over its reported inclusion in the 2026 Appropriation Act.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The decision followed an earlier rejection of a similar motion on\u00a0<strong>July 8<\/strong>, sponsored by\u00a0<strong>Senator Suleiman Kawu Sumaila<\/strong>\u00a0(NNPP, Kano South).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">At the time, the Senate resolved that it would not commence a parallel investigation, citing President Bola Tinubu&#8217;s directive to the\u00a0<strong>Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC)<\/strong>\u00a0to investigate the matter.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Presiding over plenary during the earlier debate,\u00a0<strong>Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin<\/strong>\u00a0argued that the Senate should await the outcome of the executive investigation before deciding on any legislative action.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;I believe that what we need to do at this stage is to have the report of the ICPC, and then we can act on that report, deal with it as we feel appropriate,&#8221; Barau said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">While presenting the motion last week, Senator Sumaila argued that the controversy surrounding the purported PFIPC had raised serious concerns about the integrity of the nation&#8217;s budgeting process and the credibility of the National Assembly.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He told the Senate:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;The Senate notes with concern that, in recent weeks, the public space has been inundated with allegations, controversies, accusations and counter-accusations concerning an entity known as the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The lawmaker warned that the allegations had undermined public confidence in both the National Assembly and the 2026 Appropriation Act, making it imperative for the legislature to independently establish the facts.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">However, despite renewed calls for parliamentary scrutiny, the Senate again declined to open a separate investigation, maintaining its earlier position that it would await the outcome of the ICPC&#8217;s probe.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The decision has drawn attention because the National Assembly is constitutionally empowered not only to make laws but also to conduct investigations aimed at exposing corruption, ensuring accountability in public institutions and exercising oversight over the Executive arm of government.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">With Wednesday&#8217;s decision, the controversy over the alleged PFIPC is expected to remain in the public spotlight pending the conclusion of the ICPC investigation and any subsequent action by the
