{"id":128655,"date":"2026-07-28T20:34:00","date_gmt":"2026-07-28T19:34:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=128655"},"modified":"2026-07-28T20:34:00","modified_gmt":"2026-07-28T19:34:00","slug":"wike-seeks-urgent-release-of-funds-to-complete-12-year-old-abuja-road-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/wike-seeks-urgent-release-of-funds-to-complete-12-year-old-abuja-road-project\/","title":{"rendered":"Wike Seeks Urgent Release of Funds to Complete 12-Year-Old Abuja Road Project"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>By Oscar Okhifo<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has appealed to the Federal Government for the immediate approval and release of funds to accelerate the completion of the long-abandoned ISEX Road project in Abuja.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Wike said the contractor handling the project had assured the FCT Administration that a substantial portion of the 10-kilometre road could be delivered before the end of the year if funds already appropriated for the project in the national budget were released without delay.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The minister made the appeal on Tuesday during an inspection of the ISEX Road and Gaduwa Road projects in the Federal Capital Territory.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The ISEX Road links Nnamdi Azikiwe Expressway (Area 1\/Apo) with Goodluck Jonathan Expressway (Galadimawa), forming a critical transportation corridor expected to ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity within the capital city.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Wike disclosed that the ISEX Road project, awarded in December 2014, is one of the oldest inherited infrastructure projects in the FCT. He reiterated the commitment of the President Bola Tinubu administration to completing all viable projects initiated by previous governments rather than abandoning them.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to him, the contractor has promised to complete six kilometres of the dual carriageway, including some of the interchanges, by December if the required funds are released promptly.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;We also visited the ISEX Road project. It is the only major project, apart from the Apo-Karshi Road, that was awarded by a previous administration. That project was awarded in 2014, which is over a decade ago. It is a 10-kilometre road with interchanges.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;The contractor has assured us that, if funds are made available, they can complete six kilometres of the road, along with some of the interchanges, by December.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;We have appealed to the Minister of Finance because funding for the project is already captured in the national budget. If part of the allocation is released, the contractor will be able to meet the deadline.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The minister said discussions with the Minister of Finance would continue to facilitate the release of the funds, describing the project as vital to the transformation of Abuja&#8217;s road infrastructure.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;We will continue discussions with the Minister of Finance to ensure that the necessary funds are released.
