{"id":129068,"date":"2026-08-19T07:16:56","date_gmt":"2026-08-19T06:16:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=129068"},"modified":"2026-08-19T07:16:56","modified_gmt":"2026-08-19T06:16:56","slug":"senegal-appoint-former-french-star-patrick-vieira-as-new-head-coach","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/senegal-appoint-former-french-star-patrick-vieira-as-new-head-coach\/","title":{"rendered":"Senegal appoint former French star Patrick Vieira as new head coach"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>By Oscar Okhifo<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Former France international and Arsenal captain Patrick Vieira has been appointed head coach of Senegal&#8217;s senior national team, the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) announced on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Vieira succeeds Pape Thiaw, whose contract was terminated following Senegal&#8217;s elimination from the World Cup in the round of 32.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The 50-year-old former midfielder becomes the first coach appointed by Senegal to take charge of the national team after building his managerial career entirely at club level.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Confirming the appointment in a statement posted on X, the FSF said the date for Vieira&#8217;s official presentation and details of his formal installation would be announced later.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cPatrick Vieira is the new coach of Senegal senior national team. We will announce the date of the official presentation and the next step for his installation,\u201d the federation said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Vieira brings extensive managerial experience from clubs in England, France, Italy and the United States.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He began his senior coaching career with New York City FC before returning to France to manage Nice.
