A viral video showing a Nasarawa State lawmaker confronting hospital officials over the alleged disappearance and sale of medical and welfare items donated to a health facility in his constituency has sparked outrage on social media and renewed concerns about the management of public donations.<\/p>\n

The lawmaker, Hon. Ibrahim Sa\u2019ad, who represents Umaisha\/Ugya Constituency in the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, was seen in the video expressing anger after allegedly discovering that some items he donated for the benefit of patients were no longer where he expected them to be.<\/p>\n

The items included 50 ceiling fans, 40 standing fans and 50 orthopaedic mattresses.<\/p>\n

In the footage, Sa\u2019ad is seen questioning hospital personnel and demanding an explanation over the whereabouts of the donated items.<\/p>\n

\u201cDoctor, you remember the last time I spoke to you about the orthopaedic mattresses I bought for my people. Where are the mattresses? Why are you lying to me?\u201d the lawmaker asked.<\/p>\n

He further demanded to be taken round the hospital wards to verify the condition and location of the mattresses and fans.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhere are the ceiling fans? Where are they? I had a discussion with the doctor and asked him where the mattresses I bought for my people were, and he told me they were in the store,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe standing fans, I bought about 40. You are telling me the mattresses are in the wards, then take me round the wards. Look at the condition of my people. It is my money I used in buying these things for my people,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

The lawmaker subsequently gave the hospital officials 10 minutes to produce the items.<\/p>\n

The confrontation has since generated significant reactions on social media, with several users condemning what they described as the alleged diversion or sale of materials donated for public use.<\/p>\n

One user, @fattylincorn_01, described the incident as evidence that \u201csome Nigerians are wicked\u201d, while recounting the reported donation of 50 ceiling fans, 40 standing fans and 50 orthopaedic mattresses.<\/p>\n

Another user, @SaheedOlaSalami, described the alleged conduct as \u201cevil\u201d, linking it to the need for individuals to take responsibility for their actions.<\/p>\n

Similarly, @OfficialStora25 described the alleged diversion of donated items as \u201csabotage\u201d, arguing that such actions could subsequently create the impression that government was failing to provide basic amenities.<\/p>\n

Another commentator, @foundation2006, questioned the level of corruption in the country and alleged that some of the donated items were found to have been sold following a visit to Umaisha General Hospital in Toto Local Government Area.<\/p>\n

Reacting to the controversy, @mrkelcy attributed incidents of this nature to what the user described as a lack of consequences for wrongdoing, arguing that misconduct tends to thrive when individuals believe they will not be held accountable.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, @rizzy_guy alleged that even government-provided materials could be diverted before reaching their intended beneficiaries, blaming what the user described as a pervasive culture of corruption.<\/p>\n

However, the allegations surrounding the hospital have not been independently established by an official investigation. It also remains unclear who allegedly sold the items, when the alleged sale occurred, how much was realised from any such transaction or whether any hospital official has been sanctioned.<\/p>\n

Sa\u2019ad has previously been associated with constituency interventions aimed at supporting vulnerable residents.<\/p>\n

In July 2024, reports indicated that the lawmaker distributed relief materials worth millions of naira, including 150 mattresses, to victims of attacks in his constituency.<\/p>\n

In March 2025, he was also reported to have distributed items valued at about N55 million to constituents. The intervention reportedly included rice, JAMB application forms, clothing, mosquito nets and cash grants.<\/p>\n

The latest controversy has therefore shifted attention beyond the immediate confrontation to broader questions about accountability, transparency and the protection of donated public-use materials.<\/p>\n

It has also renewed calls for stronger mechanisms to monitor constituency interventions and ensure that items provided for hospitals and other public institutions are properly documented, preserved and made available to the people for whom they were intended.<\/p>\n

Until the allegations are formally investigated, however, the viral footage remains evidence of a confrontation and an allegation, rather than proof that hospital officials sold the donated items.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
