{"id":129177,"date":"2026-08-27T19:43:09","date_gmt":"2026-08-27T18:43:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=129177"},"modified":"2026-08-27T19:43:09","modified_gmt":"2026-08-27T18:43:09","slug":"tcn-counters-ekedc-says-feeders-triggered-lekki-fault","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/tcn-counters-ekedc-says-feeders-triggered-lekki-fault\/","title":{"rendered":"TCN Counters EKEDC, Says Feeders Triggered Lekki Fault"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>By Godswill Michael<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has disputed the account given by the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) over a power outage at the Lekki Transmission Substation, saying faults on two distribution feeders triggered the incident.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">TCN, in a statement issued by its management on Thursday, said the incident occurred at about 4:34 a.m. on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, when EKEDC\u2019s Oniru 33kV and Agungi 33kV feeders tripped simultaneously due to overcurrent and an earth fault.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The company said the fault subsequently caused the inter-tripping of the primary and secondary breakers of its TR1 60MVA, 132\/33kV transformer.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to TCN, the incident was accompanied by a \u201cheavy bang and smoke,\u201d prompting its maintenance team to respond to the substation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The transmission company was reacting to an earlier statement by EKEDC, which, according to TCN, claimed that its T11 transformer had tripped unexpectedly and was awaiting inspection.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cContrary to EKEDP\u2019s claim that TCN\u2019s T11 transformer tripped unexpectedly and was awaiting inspection, the actual incident involved the simultaneous tripping of EKEDP\u2019s Oniru 33kV and Agungi 33kV feeders at 04:34 a.m. on 26th August 2026, due to overcurrent and earth fault,\u201d TCN said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The company said its maintenance team \u201cpromptly responded, rehabilitated the damaged secondary breaker, and restored both primary and secondary breakers later that same day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">However, TCN said the fault resurfaced after EKEDC attempted to restore its Oniru feeder.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cUpon EKEDP\u2019s trial closure of its Oniru feeder, the same relay indications caused another trip, necessitating further corrective work,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">TCN stressed that its T11 transformer did not suffer an outage as claimed by the distribution company.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cNo outage occurred on TCN\u2019s T11 transformer as claimed by EKEDP,\u201d it said, adding that \u201cthe incident was strictly related to EKEDP\u2019s Oniru 33kV and Agungi 33kV feeders.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The transmission company said its technical team remained at the site and was working to restore electricity supply to affected customers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cTCN\u2019s technical team has been on-site, working assiduously to restore supply within the shortest possible time,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It assured affected electricity consumers that efforts were ongoing to resolve the fault and restore normal power supply, while apologising for the inconvenience caused by the disruption.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">TCN also reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the transmission network and improving the reliability of electricity supply across the country.<\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Godswill Michael The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has disputed the account given by the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) over a power outage at the Lekki Transmission Substation,&hellip;<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on wp_trim_excerpt --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on wp_trim_excerpt --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on wp_trim_excerpt --><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":83043,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_lmt_disableupdate":"","_lmt_disable":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[5],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-129177","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.8 -
