The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared the former Chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT), Abdulrasheed Abdullahi Maina, wanted over an alleged case of receiving stolen property.<\/p>\n

The anti-graft agency made the declaration on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, in a wanted notice signed by its Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale.<\/p>\n

The notice read: \u201cThe public is hereby notified that ABDULRASHEED ABDULLAHI MAINA, whose photograph appears above, is wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in an alleged case of Receiving Stolen Properties.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to the notice, Maina, 61, is an indigene of Biu in Borno State.<\/p>\n

The EFCC urged anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact any of its offices, the nearest police station or other security agencies.<\/p>\n

The commission listed its offices in Ibadan, Uyo, Sokoto, Maiduguri, Benin, Makurdi, Kaduna, Ilorin, Enugu, Kano, Lagos, Gombe, Port Harcourt and Abuja as points of contact.<\/p>\n

It also provided 08093322644 and its official email address, info@efcc.gov.ng<\/a>, for information that could assist in locating him.<\/p>\n

The latest wanted declaration comes amid Maina\u2019s previous conviction for money laundering and a separate criminal case in which he is being prosecuted over the alleged receipt of about N738.6 million in stolen funds.<\/p>\n

Maina and a co-defendant, Ann Igwe Olachi, were arraigned in 2019 on a nine-count charge. Both pleaded not guilty.<\/p>\n

The case is pending before the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Asokoro, Abuja.<\/p>\n

In February 2026, Justice Abubakar Kutigi expressed frustration over repeated delays in the proceedings and Maina\u2019s failure to appear in court.<\/p>\n

The judge warned that Maina\u2019s bail could be revoked if he continued to absent himself from the proceedings.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf your client cannot come to court, I will revoke his bail and let them go and get him,\u201d the judge was quoted as saying.<\/p>\n

The judge also said: \u201cThe last time he appeared in court was more than three years ago. I am fed up with this case.\u201d<\/p>\n

Convicted Over N2bn Pension Funds<\/h3>\n

Maina\u2019s latest legal troubles are separate from the case that previously led to his imprisonment.<\/p>\n

In November 2021, the Federal High Court in Abuja convicted him of money laundering offences involving more than N2 billion in pension funds.<\/p>\n

He was sentenced to a total of 61 years\u2019 imprisonment on various counts, with the sentences to run concurrently, effectively amounting to an eight-year prison term. The court also ordered the forfeiture of funds and assets linked to the offences.<\/p>\n

The Court of Appeal upheld his conviction and sentence in May 2023.<\/p>\n

Maina was released from Kuje Correctional Centre on February 25, 2025, after serving part of his sentence. The Nigerian Correctional Service attributed his release to statutory remission and his conduct while in custody.<\/p>\n

Maina became nationally prominent during his tenure as chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Pension Reforms, where he was involved in efforts to recover allegedly misappropriated pension funds.<\/p>\n

His activities subsequently became the subject of EFCC investigation and prosecution.<\/p>\n

His return to government service in 2017, after he had been away from the country amid corruption allegations, also generated controversy.<\/p>\n

Former President Muhammadu Buhari subsequently ordered his immediate disengagement from government service and directed an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding his reinstatement.<\/p>\n

The EFCC\u2019s latest notice places Maina on the agency\u2019s wanted list as it seeks to establish his whereabouts in connection with the fresh allegation of receiving stolen property.<\/p>\n
