The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has showcased its anti-corruption enforcement activities, revealing that asset recoveries recorded between October 2023 and July 2026 have crossed the N1 trillion mark.<\/p>\n

The commission released a video on its official X account with the caption, \u201cEvidence full ground,\u201d on Thursday, highlighting its investigations, prosecutions, convictions, recoveries and evidence-gathering efforts in the fight against economic and financial crimes.<\/p>\n

The video provides a snapshot of the commission\u2019s activities between October 1, 2023, and July 31, 2026, during which the agency said it received 49,673 petitions.<\/p>\n

According to the EFCC, 39,615 cases were investigated, while 14,476 cases were filed in courts across the country, resulting in 10,872 convictions.<\/p>\n

The commission presented the figures as evidence of the scale of its enforcement activities and its sustained campaign against financial crimes.<\/p>\n

Explaining the figures, the EFCC said they represented its efforts against offences ranging from advance-fee fraud, cybercrime, money laundering and bank fraud to economic and governance-related financial crimes.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat do this represent? They represent the fight against crimes from advance fee fraud, cybercrime, money laundering, bank fraud and economic governance fraud and behind every case investigated, a financial trail uncovered and public resources recovered,\u201d the commission said.<\/p>\n

It added that the fight against economic and financial crimes would continue.<\/p>\n

\u201cTherefore, to keep pushing the fight against economic and financial crimes forward, the work continues,\u201d the EFCC said.<\/p>\n

The recovery milestone highlighted in the video covers funds and assets recovered through the commission\u2019s enforcement operations, including assets linked to financial crimes and recoveries involving foreign currencies.<\/p>\n

Beyond the value of the recoveries, the EFCC used the video to draw attention to the importance of evidence in its investigations, particularly financial trails, digital forensics and documentary and electronic evidence.<\/p>\n

The emphasis comes against the backdrop of increasingly sophisticated financial crimes involving digital transactions, online platforms and complex movement of funds across multiple accounts and jurisdictions.<\/p>\n

Under Executive Chairman Ola Olukoyede, the EFCC has continued to highlight intelligence-led investigations, asset tracing, digital forensic capabilities and prosecution as key components of its enforcement strategy.<\/p>\n

However, the commission\u2019s claims also generated reactions on social media, with some users questioning its handling of cases involving politically exposed persons and the transparency surrounding recovered funds.<\/p>\n

One X user, @OkpotakoFestus, criticised the commission over its handling of cases involving politicians, alleging that some political figures accused of wrongdoing remained free.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s no difference between EFCC and the criminal Nigerian politicians. Yahaya Bello and other political Criminals are still walking free in Nigeria. Failure is your name,\u201d the user wrote.<\/p>\n

Another X user, @Berlinewest, questioned the commission\u2019s perceived impartiality and alleged that some politicians had received favourable treatment after joining the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).<\/p>\n

He wrote: \u201cNigerians stopped trusting and believing the Commission since they now work in favour of a Particular Political Party (APC). Just commit an offense, Get EFFC invitation, Run to APC and Boom, your your Sins are forgiven eg Yaya Bello, Okowa and co.. Shame on the Commission.\u201d<\/p>\n

The allegation was the commenter\u2019s opinion and was not established by the EFCC video.<\/p>\n

Another X user, @Thistepherare, focused on the management of recovered funds, questioning where money recovered by the commission goes and how such funds are ultimately utilised.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat is not the legacy, the legacy is transparency, what is the money recovered used for? Which account does it go into? Why do we have so much debts after all this recoveries? Why won\u2019t this recoveries fix Nigeria Owned refineries???\u201d the user wrote.<\/p>\n

The reactions reflect broader public interest not only in the amount recovered by the EFCC but also in the destination, management and utilisation of recovered funds and assets.<\/p>\n

The commission\u2019s \u201cEvidence full ground\u201d message therefore goes beyond a display of recovered assets. It also highlights the scale of its investigative and prosecutorial activities during the period under review.<\/p>\n

With tens of thousands of petitions received, thousands of investigations conducted and thousands of convictions recorded, the EFCC says its enforcement machinery remains focused on tracing financial trails, recovering illicit assets and prosecuting suspected offenders.<\/p>\n

The latest showcase indicates that the commission intends to sustain its campaign against economic and financial crimes, with evidence gathering remaining central to its investigative and prosecution strategy, even as public scrutiny of its operations and the management of recoveries continues.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
