Dr. Gabriel Ghiakhomo Dunia, has urged Nigerians to live with the consciousness of eternity, warning that nobody knows when God will call them home.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Bishop Dunia gave the admonition on Saturday during the requiem Mass for Chief Dan Osi Orbih in Ogbona, Etsako Central Local Government Area of Edo State.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Mass attracted family members, friends, political associates and other dignitaries from across the country who gathered to pay their last respects to the late political heavyweight.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In his homily, which centred on the transient nature of human life and the journey towards eternity, the bishop urged the congregation to reflect on life after death and their responsibility to account for how they spend their time on earth.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">While extolling Orbih&#8217;s virtues and contributions during his lifetime, he prayed for the peaceful repose of his soul and urged the living to make conscious efforts to lead righteous lives.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;If we believe the words of Jesus that there is resurrection which leads to another life known as eternity, we must be conscious of how we live.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;How we live is very important because the life and times are entrusted to us and we will all be made to account for every moment,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Don&#8217;t Postpone Repentance, Bishop Warns<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Bishop Dunia cautioned against delaying the decision to change one&#8217;s ways, stressing that nobody could be certain of how much time they had left.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;Unfortunately, we always think there is time. I will set my life right when I retire; I will do it later in the future. Who tells you that you have the time?&#8221; he asked.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He urged Nigerians to prioritise their spiritual lives over the pursuit of wealth, academic qualifications and titles.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;The energy for the race for eternal life must take pre-eminence above the pursuit of wealth, degrees and titles.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;God will never wait for anyone to be ready before calling us home when he wants. So, it is folly to say, &#8216;I will repent when I am ready.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;Our beloved brother has run his race. We will someday run ours. What shall be said of us? Are we going to be remembered for good or evil? The decision can only be made now that we are alive. When we are done and gone, we can no longer make such decisions,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The bishop also urged Orbih&#8217;s family, friends and associates to continue praying for the deceased, emphasising that prayers were more important than other efforts to preserve his memory.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;You have ways you want to immortalise him. This is okay; however, what he needs most is prayers. We must always show him love in death by praying for his soul,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He urged the congregation to remain conscious of eternity in their daily lives, describing Jesus Christ as the way, the truth and the life.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to him, following Christ&#8217;s teachings and the path prescribed by the Church would lead believers to eternal life, where there would be no sorrow or weeping.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Wike Pays Tribute, Dismisses Speculation Over Okpebholo<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, a close political ally of the deceased, paid tribute to Orbih, describing their relationship as one founded on love, friendship and family-like bonds.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Wike said he would deeply miss the late politician and the affection they shared over the years.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He also dismissed speculation surrounding his relationship with Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, following his remarks at the Night of Tributes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">At the event, Wike had jokingly questioned the governor&#8217;s absence before being informed that he was represented by a senior government official.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The minister said he had merely asked whether anything was wrong and maintained that his relationship with Okpebholo remained cordial.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He insisted that there had been no change in their relationship.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Okpebholo: Orbih&#8217;s Death Reminds Us of Our Mortality<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In his remarks, Governor Okpebholo reflected on his previous encounter with Orbih at the same church, recalling the late politician&#8217;s energetic participation in activities during his birthday celebration.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;This is my second time here in this church. The first time was when Chief Orbih was celebrating his birthday. He was everywhere and I had to ask if he was an usher. That was how dutiful he was.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;Today, it dawns on me that he is gone. I am here with others to bid him farewell. He was a very straightforward person. This is a reminder that we will all someday go,&#8221; the governor said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Okpebholo prayed for the peaceful repose of Orbih&#8217;s soul and asked God to grant his family the strength to bear the loss.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Political, Judicial Dignitaries Gather in Ogbona<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ogbona witnessed a gathering of prominent political leaders, government officials, judicial officers and other dignitaries who came to honour the late politician.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Those present included Governor Okpebholo; former Edo State governor and senator representing Edo North, Adams Oshiomhole; Minister of Regional Development, Engr. Abubakar Momoh; former Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu; and Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, who was represented by Dr. Philip Ikubor.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Others included Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, Magnus Abe, the Chief Judge of Edo State, Justice Iyobosa Igbinovia, and Victor Giadom, alongside other prominent figures from the judiciary, politics and public service.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Orbih, a former Edo State chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former National Vice-Chairman of the party in the South-South, died on Monday, August 31, 2026.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He was buried on Saturday, October 10, 2026, following the requiem Mass in his hometown of Ogbona, Etsako Central Local Government Area of Edo State.<\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Oscar Okhifo The Catholic Bishop of Auchi Diocese, Most Rev.
