Their resignations came amid growing attention to Makinde&#8217;s decision to pursue the presidency on the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The exits have added to a growing list of departures from the state government, including that of the former Secretary to the State Government, Professor Olanike Adeyemo.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">While Oyeleke cited an unconducive working environment as the reason for his resignation, Ojo and Falana did not publicly disclose specific reasons for their decisions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The development is particularly noteworthy coming barely weeks after Ogunwuyi&#8217;s resignation on October 12, further drawing attention to the political atmosphere within the administration as Makinde steps up preparations for the 2027 presidential contest.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The governor has, however, remained firm on his decision to contest, insisting that his ambition is driven by the need to offer Nigerians an alternative leadership rather than simply occupy the highest political office in the country.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Speaking in Akure, Ondo State, on October 22, Makinde said he was committed to the presidential race.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;My ambition is driven by the desire to provide Nigerians with an alternative leadership capable of addressing the country&#8217;s economic, security and developmental challenges,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Beyond Oyo State, however, Makinde&#8217;s ambition has opened up wider political questions about its implications for the opposition and the balance of political interests in the Southwest, a region where President Bola Tinubu has considerable political influence.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A major consideration in the emerging debate is whether the Southwest political establishment would be willing to support a presidential candidate other than Tinubu in the 2027 election, given the president&#8217;s political roots and influence in the region.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This has prompted questions about the timing of Makinde&#8217;s decision to enter the race and how his candidacy might affect opposition efforts to build a united front against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Although the governor has maintained that he is in the contest to win, some political observers believe his entry could complicate opposition negotiations, particularly if discussions eventually centre on presenting a consensus candidate.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The situation is further complicated by the absence of any indication that Makinde would be prepared to withdraw from the race in favour of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar or former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi should the opposition settle for either of them as its preferred candidate.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Makinde has not publicly expressed a willingness to step aside for either politician, leaving unresolved questions about how competing ambitions and interests within the opposition would be reconciled ahead of the election.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The governor&#8217;s presidential project is expected to gain further momentum with the planned unveiling of his manifesto on November 4, followed by the commencement of his campaign on November 7.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Meanwhile, there has been no official indication that the latest resignations were connected to Makinde&#8217;s presidential ambition.
