Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has directed his supporters to vote for candidates of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) at all levels in the 2027 general elections, despite his continued detention.<\/p>\n

The directive was disclosed by the ADC National Vice Chairman, North-West, Hajiya Hafsat Baba, at a coalition meeting of support groups loyal to the former governor in Kaduna State.<\/p>\n

Baba said El-Rufai had urged his supporters to remain united, peaceful and law-abiding while mobilising for the party ahead of the elections.<\/p>\n

She said the directive covered the presidential, governorship, National Assembly and State House of Assembly elections across Kaduna State’s 23 local government areas.<\/p>\n

According to her, the meeting was convened to bring the various support groups together and strengthen their coordination ahead of the 2027 polls.<\/p>\n

Quoting El-Rufai’s message to the supporters, Baba said: \u201cMallam also said I should tell you to remain united because it is only when we are united that we can achieve our goals during the election.\u201d<\/p>\n

She added: \u201cWe want to tell our people that this is the message from Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, as verified by him: he wants us to vote for ADC at the federal level, state level, local government level, wards, and everywhere across the 23 local government areas of Kaduna State.\u201d<\/p>\n

Baba said the coalition was determined to make Kaduna State an ADC stronghold.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want Kaduna to be ADC. This is our responsibility, this is what we want to do, and this is what he wants us to do, and we are ready to do it,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

The ADC chieftain disclosed that the coalition would establish a database of El-Rufai’s supporters across the state and sustain regular engagements to strengthen grassroots mobilisation.<\/p>\n

She said the supporters were also committed to preserving the former governor’s legacy, particularly in education, healthcare and empowerment.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe has already laid the foundation, and it is left for us to continue with his legacy,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Baba, however, expressed concern over insecurity in parts of Kaduna State, particularly Birnin Gwari, Giwa and Millennium City.<\/p>\n

She called on security agencies to intensify efforts to protect residents, warning against the abduction of people engaged in legitimate activities.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe cannot afford to have people being kidnapped while they are carrying out their lawful duties,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

The ADC chieftain also alleged that more than 30 of El-Rufai’s supporters had been arrested about two weeks before the meeting, questioning what she described as repeated arrests of the former governor’s loyalists.<\/p>\n

She urged security agencies to remain impartial and discharge their responsibilities in accordance with the Constitution.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey are government officials; they should not take sides, and they have to do their work according to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

Also speaking at the meeting, another ally of the former governor, Ibrahim Hussaini, dismissed suggestions that El-Rufai had lost his political influence, insisting that he continued to enjoy considerable support across Kaduna State and the North.<\/p>\n

Hussaini described the former governor’s current circumstances as a test from God and expressed optimism that the situation could ultimately strengthen his political standing.<\/p>\n

He urged supporters to remain united and committed to the ADC ahead of the 2027 elections, saying recent developments had exposed those whose loyalty to El-Rufai was not genuine.<\/p>\n

El-Rufai, who governed Kaduna State from 2015 to 2023, remains in detention following his arrest in March 2026 over allegations of financial misconduct during his tenure.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
