{"id":130437,"date":"2026-11-03T18:33:39","date_gmt":"2026-11-03T17:33:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=130437"},"modified":"2026-11-03T18:33:39","modified_gmt":"2026-11-03T17:33:39","slug":"atiku-raises-alarm-over-alleged-dss-plot-to-disrupt-adc-rally-in-sokoto","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/atiku-raises-alarm-over-alleged-dss-plot-to-disrupt-adc-rally-in-sokoto\/","title":{"rendered":"Atiku Raises Alarm Over Alleged DSS Plot to Disrupt ADC Rally in Sokoto"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>By Godswill Michael<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Former Vice President and presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has raised the alarm over an alleged plot by the leadership of the Department of State Services (DSS) to mobilise protesters to disrupt the party\u2019s campaign rally in Sokoto State.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Atiku alleged that the planned protests were intended to create disorder, provide the state government with an excuse to impose a curfew and prevent the ADC from holding its rally as scheduled.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In a press statement he read on Tuesday in Abuja, the former vice president claimed that some protesters had assembled at an office behind Zenith Bank on Koko Road in Sokoto, with trucks allegedly stationed there to transport them to strategic locations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He said the protesters had moved to key points, including a roundabout, where they were causing traffic congestion and threatening commuters.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cCommuters are being threatened and, in some cases, beaten. Some of the protesters have moved away from the roundabout to find shade,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Atiku described the alleged mobilisation as political interference, calling on security personnel involved to desist and return to their constitutional responsibilities.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThis is not intelligence work. It is political interference dressed in official uniform. Security agencies exist to protect Nigerians and uphold the law, not to recruit protesters or help a political party manufacture a crisis,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The ADC candidate also accused the Sokoto State Government of frustrating the party\u2019s campaign preparations by denying it access to public facilities meant for legitimate political activities and withholding logistical support.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He described the alleged actions as deliberate attempts to deny the opposition a level playing field ahead of the 2027 general elections.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Atiku further accused the administration of President Bola Tinubu of weakening opposition parties and narrowing the space for political competition.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He alleged that the government was pursuing a one-party agenda by drawing former opposition figures into the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) while frustrating other political parties.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The former vice president said the government should focus on addressing the economic difficulties confronting Nigerians rather than obstructing opposition campaigns.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He cited the rising costs of food, transportation, fuel and electricity as some of the challenges facing households and businesses.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Atiku promised that an ADC-led government would support local production, strengthen food production, create jobs and reduce the cost of doing business.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He also proposed a targeted production subsidy tied to fuel refined in Nigeria, saying the measure would provide relief to consumers while strengthening domestic industries.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Despite the alleged attempts to disrupt the rally, Atiku said the ADC would proceed with its campaign, confirming that he would be in Sokoto on Wednesday to address supporters.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThe ADC will resist every gimmick, administrative roadblock and underhand manoeuvre designed to exclude the opposition or impose a one-party reality on Nigeria.
