The Joint Task Force (JTF) operating\u00a0 in Maiduguri the Borno State Capital has arrested a serving\u00a0 senior officer\u00a0 of the Nigeria Custom Service
\n(NCS)\u00a0 for\u00a0 allegedly assisting Boko Haram members with the importation of arms and ammunition<\/p>\n
A top\u00a0 security official revealed to Pointblanknews.com that\u00a0 the Customs officer whose name was not revealed for security reasons works at the operations unit at the Borno Command of the Nigeria Customs.<\/p>\n
He is alleged to have taken the advantage of his place of work to assist Boko Haram members\u00a0 with importation of arms from Chad and Niger Republics by ensuring that trucks conveying arms and ammunition are never searched.<\/p>\n
The source disclose that ” the customs officer in question always\u00a0 manned the border post each time the truck conveying arms was about coming into Maiduguri. He would simply tell his boys to let it pass that it has been cleared from above,” he said.<\/p>\n
“These trucks usually come with goods from Chad or Niger and arms are carefully hidden there but he would tell his boys at the duty post that the trucks are already cleared. It was one of such supposed cleared trucks that expose him. The truck was checked again by the multi-national joint task force troops at the border and behold, arms were discovered and the driver spilled the bean,” he said.<\/p>\n
Pointblanknews.com gathered\u00a0 that the senior custom officer has been under security watch\u00a0 by his superiors for some time before he was arrested.<\/p>\n
Sources revealed that\u00a0 mansion said to belong to the senior custom officer located\u00a0 along the Maiduguri- Konduga\u00a0 road was searched by the JTF troops where some military uniforms and arms were discovered.<\/p>\n
