The Acting National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Barr. Tony Caesar Okeke yesterday took stock of\u00a0 recent political developments in the country and submitted that the PDP will still retain its preeminent position come 2015.<\/p>\n
This is just as he showered encomiums on the National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Bamanaga Tukur and the immediate past National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh for repositioning the publicity arm of the party for greater productivity in the last 14 months.<\/p>\n
Fielding questions from newsmen shortly after an inspection of the Directorate, Okeke expressed satisfaction over the innovations introduced by his immediate predecessor which he said \u201cenabled the party to win more supporters and put the opposition at check despite internal challenges and unwarranted attacks by the opposition.\u201d<\/p>\n
Okeke who was accompanied by the Acting Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Caleb Yaya, praised Metuh for \u201cintroducing finesse in PDP publicity and for his refusal to engage in propaganda and the use of uncouth language\u201d which he noted is the \u201ctrademarks of opposition parties.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Acting National Publicity Secretary, who said he will build on Metuh\u2019s achievements, observed that his predecessor succeeded in upgrading the publicity arm from a department to a full-fledged Directorate with tactical units which have impacted positively on the image of the party.<\/p>\n
Okeke also commended his predecessor for launching an upgraded interactive PDP website and the creation of PDP Facebook and twitter accounts which have been fitted with multi-media information management features including text, pictures and video applications for online, real time dissemination of information on the activities of the party.<\/p>\n
Stating that the leadership of the party under Alhaji Bamanga Tukur has shown resilience in its publicity efforts, Okeke said he was informed that the immediate past National Publicity Secretary even committed his personal resources to ensure the success of the directorate.<\/p>\n
While soliciting the support of the media, the acting spokesperson of the party assured that he remained committed to sustaining the tempo already set by his predecessor pending the election of a substantive National Publicity Secretary at the July 20, 2013 special convention.<\/p>\n
Okeke however declined comments on questions about the fate of former National Secretary of the Party, Chief Olagunsoye Oyinlola ahead of the convention as the matter is still in court.<\/p>\n
He said the PDP remains the party to beat adding that as a family guided by the principles of equity and justice, it has all it takes to settle its problems.
