The Kwara Government on Friday\u00a0 pledged\u00a0 to promote\u00a0 the tourism potentials of the state in order to boost revenue and create employment.<\/p>\n
Hajia Rahmat Adesina-Abaya, the state Commissioner for Social Development, Culture and Tourism,\u00a0 made the pledge in Ilorin at the 2012 Kwara Cultural Festival.<\/p>\n
The commissioner,\u00a0 who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry,\u00a0 Alhaji Abdulraham Sidiq, \u00a0said government\u00a0 was planning to revive the status of\u00a0 culture and tourism in the state.<\/p>\n
She urged\u00a0 individuals and non governmental bodies to partner with the ministry in order to the sector.<\/p>\n
Adesina-Abaya\u00a0 further said that\u00a0 the festival was a\u00a0 celebration of \u00a0the state\u2019s cultural heritage, adding that it would\u00a0 sensitise the youths\u00a0 on \u00a0 the beauty of\u00a0 their indigenous dialects, music, dance and dresses.<\/p>\n
The commissioner commended\u00a0 Gov. Abdulfatah Ahmed for the attention given to the\u00a0 promotion of\u00a0 the cultural heritage of the state.<\/p>\n
She also said the state was determined to successfully host \u00a0the 26th National Festival of Arts and Culture tagged \u201cNAFEST 2012. \u2019\u2019<\/p>\n
The commissioner solicited the support of all residents\u00a0 to ensure\u00a0 a hitch-free\u00a0 festival.<\/p>\n
Alhaji \u00a0Isiaka Gold, the Secretary to the State \u00a0Government, said government could ensure economic recovery without recourse to oil revenue.<\/p>\n
\u201cIndeed, it is crystal-clear that by developing the economic potentials of our crafts, culture and tourism as individuals and collectivity, poverty would be eliminated from our homes and society in general,\u2019\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n
In his address of welcome, Mr Akande Kabir, the Chairman of\u00a0 Kwara Cultural Festival Executive Council,\u00a0 said the event\u00a0 was designed to align and promote the administration\u2019s policy of\u00a0 promoting culture and tourism through public-private partnership.
