The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe, has assured that the protracted feud between the Presidency, Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State and other aggrieved governors in the country would soon be resolved.<\/p>\n
He said that “the national reconciliation committee that was set up by Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, would tackle all the lingering issues that gave birth to the crisis and ensure true reconciliation in the party.”<\/p>\n
The presidential aide spoke yesterday in Makurdi, Benue State capital, after featuring as a guest preacher at the Rock of Victory Evangelical Ministry special church service held in honour of the state’s Duty Governor, Chief Steven Lawani.<\/p>\n
Okupe said: “Our party, PDP, as the ruling party, has a reputation of overcoming its crisis and coming together as a family to remain in power.<\/p>\n
“There is a time for everything. There is time to fight and time for peace and let me inform you that for PDP, this is the time to make peace and the leaders of the party are working round the clock to reconcile all aggrieved parties.”<\/p>\n
On the recently released manifesto of All Progressives Congress, APC, Okupe said: “It is a useless document that was just downloaded from Internet. In any case, APC will remain as the opposition in 2015 as PDP will still retain power.”<\/p>\n
While pleading with Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, to return back to the classrooms in the interest of the future leaders of the country, Okupe said: “If you ask me my own views on this matter, I would suggest that government hands off the running of higher education in this country.<\/p>\n
“If the private universities are working, I wonder why public universities cannot work.”<\/p>\n
